(02/106) Person Forced to be Police Informant Under Custody in Istanbul…

People’s Law Office declared on February 8, 2021 that, Murat Yüksel, a client who was detained in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on February 4, 2021 was forced to be a police informant at Gazi Police Station by 2 persons who claim themselves as intelligence officers, and he was threatened to death for rejecting this.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 8, 2021 that, Mehmet Dersulu, an arrested participator of “I Want My Job Back” protests in Ankara, is kept in a solitary cell for 25 days in Bolu F Type Prison. It is also stated in the news reports that, Mehmet Dersulu was subjected to disciplinary proceedings for he held a sit-in protest against restriction of right to have letters and books; and that he was penalised with prevention of communication rights as a result of disciplinary proceedings.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 8, 2021 that, Murat Aktaş, a prisoner in Edirne F Type Prison was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers and injured at the head.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 8, 2021 that, Züleyha Doğru, an ill prisoner was kept in a solitary cell for 2 and a half months in Iğdır Prison.

(02/108) Police Interventions to Protests Against News Rector Appointment to Boğaziçi University…

The police intervened the press declaration in Tunceli on February 8, 2021, to protest the news rector appointed to Boğaziçi University by the President. It is learned that nobody was detained in the police intervention.

(02/109) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

On February 4, 2021, the police have intervened the group including parliamentary members who march from HDP’s Kadıköy district office to participate in the press announcement of the United Struggle Forces in Kadıköy district of Istanbul. 61 people who were detained by the police are released by the court on February 9, 2021, provided that 24 of them will be on house confinement and 29 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

It is learned that 2 people (Ali Hasan Akgül and Hasan Koral Hacıbeyoğlu) who were released, were detained again on the same day.

Some of the people who were released on house confinement are: Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, Revolutionary Party chair Elif Torun Öneren, Revolutionary Party deputy chair Burcugül Çubuk, Muhammed Bedran Çoğaltay, Pınar Türk, Erkan Tepeli, Leyla Aygün, Emrah Tuncer, Besra İşsever, Hıdır Devrim, Ezgi Yergin, Ali Hasan Akgül, Cevdet Konak, Metin Özken, Mikail Selçuka, Ali Bal, Hasan Hüseyin Yeşilova, Yılmaz Coruk.

The police prevented the press declaration outside of Istanbul Anadolu Courthouse where 61 people were taken for after detention trial.

Ayşen Şahin, Evrensel newspaper writer, is detained on the grounds of social media posts, in Istanbul on February 8, 2021. Ayşen Şahin is released on the same day after statement procedures at the police.

Ahmet Takan, Korkusuz newspaper writer, is detained on the grounds of missing statement through a case against him, in Ankara on February 8, 2021. Ahmet Takan is released on the same day after statement procedures.

Ozan Acıdere, a photo journalist and Boğaziçi University student, is detained by the police at the entrance of university campus on February 8, 2021.

The Ministry of Interior declared on February 8, 2021 that, 1264 social media accounts were examined, proceedings were initiated against 575 people and 39 people were detained on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, between February 1 and 7, 2021.

(02/114) Ban of Events in Eskişehir and Kartal district…

Eskişehir Governorate made a declaration on February 8, 2021 and announced that all events, such as public meetings, marches, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, human chains or tied up protests, distributing leaflets and stickers, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of February 8, 2021.

Kartal Sub-Governorate in Istanbul, made a declaration on February 8, 2021 and announced that all open and indoor demonstrations, meetings and marches are banned for 7 days as of February 8, 2021.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration and announced curfew in 4 rural neighbourhoods of Artuklu district, as of 05.00 a.m. on February 7, 2021 until a further notice.

Mardin Governorate lifted the curfew as of 21.00 p. m. on February 8, 2021.

The rural neighbourhoods under curfew were: Aytepe, Yardere, Oğuz, Ahmetli.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration and announced curfew in 4 rural neighbourhoods of Nusaybin district, as of 05.00 a.m. on February 7, 2021 until a further notice.

Mardin Governorate lifted the curfew as of 21.00 p. m. on February 8, 2021.

The rural neighbourhoods under curfew were: Koruköy, Büyükkardeş, Küçükkardeş, Doğuş.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration and announced curfew in Sulakdere rural neighbourhood of Ömerli district, as of 05.00 a.m. on February 7, 2021 until a further notice.

Mardin Governorate lifted the curfew as of 21.00 p. m. on February 8, 2021.

It is learned that a social media post shared by Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Yıldırım Kaya, about Zehra Foundation, was banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Bursa Penal Court of Peace No 2 on February 3, 2021.

(02/119) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On February 8, 2021, 39 people are detained in operations covering 38 cities through a Balıkesir based investigation.

(02/120) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 103 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 632 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on February 8, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 8,103.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 26,797 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,531,456 as of February 8, 2021.
