(08/060) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced on August 8, 2022 that, 1 soldier (Infantry Sergeant Halil Koç) who has been injured in mine explosion in the Claw-Lock operation area of the Turkish Armed Forces units in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 3, 2022, died in hospital.

(08/061) Labour Killings…

On August 9, 2022, the Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 169 workers including 14 women, 17 children and 6 migrant workers died while working in July 2022. 1014 workers died in labour killings in the first seven months of 2022.

(08/062) Asylum Seekers Found Dead in Izmir…

It is learned that 3 asylum seekers were found dead in the Karaada offshore of Çeşme district of İzmir on August 8, 2022. In the statement made by the Coast Guard Command, it was claimed that the asylum seekers were thrown by the Greek Coast Guard units into the sea without life jackets and handcuffed.

It is learned that 9 people are detained on August 9, 2022 in relation to the attack on Selami Sarıtaş, the Vice President of the Federation of Alevi Foundations and the Head of Kartal Cemevi, in front of his house on August 6, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2022 that, in Adana Kürkçüler T Type Closed Prison, water was supplied to the wards for only one hour a day on the grounds of water shortage for about 2 months.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2022 that, 4 prisoners who tested positive for Covid-19 in Afyon Bolvadin Prison were being kept together with other prisons and were not receiving medical treatment.

(08/066) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on August 8, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(08/067) People Prevented from Entering the Courthouse in Urfa…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2022, that Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who have been carrying out the “Justice Watch” in front of the Urfa Courthouse since 9 March 2021, were prohibited from entering the courthouse by the order of the Urfa Governorate’s Office. On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.

It is learned that on August 8, 2022, the gendarmerie came to the house of Evrensel newspaper reporter Ramis Sağlam in Foça district of İzmir during the night when he was not at home, and the Foça Gendarmerie Command replied that they did not know about the issue.

It is learned that 5 people (C. A. T., A. Ç., D. G., F. S. and A. T.) who were detained in house raids in August 5, 2022, on the grounds of “preparing a protest” are released by the court on judicial control conditions on August 8, 2022.

It is learned that 7 people including 3 children who were detained in house raids in Edremit district of Van on August 5, 2022, are released by the court on August 8, 2022.

(08/071) Investigation About Music Platform…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2022 that, the Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against music platform Spotify, on the grounds of complaints made to the Presidency Communication Center (CİMER) for “insulting religious values and state officials” in the names of the playlists.

(08/072) Constitutional Court Decision on Ali Ismail Korkmaz…

It is learned that the application made to the Constitutional Court (AYM) by the family of Ali İsmail Korkmaz, who was killed as a result of the physical violence of the police and civilians in Eskişehir during the Gezi Park protests in 2013, was resolved on August 9, 2022. The Constitutional Court unanimously found the application inadmissible on the grounds of “incompetence in terms of the person” regarding the “violation of the right to life”, “violation of the right to hold meetings and demonstrations” and “violation of the ban on ill-treatment for the applicants”. In terms of Ali İsmail Korkmaz, the Constitutional Court has determined that the prohibition of torture, which is guaranteed in Article 17 of the Constitution, has been violated, and that the verdict will be sent to the Kayseri Heavy Penal Court No. 3 for a retrial of the police officer Hüseyin Engin, a compensation of 67,500 Turkish Liras will be paid to Ali Ismail Korkmaz’s family.

(08/073) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that Access Providers Association banned access to 23 news about Muhittin Palazoğlu, the elder brother of Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü’s son-in-law, known as Cübbeli Ahmet Hoca, on August 5, 2022, on the grounds that they were the same as the contents which were banned by the Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No. 6 on July 4, 2022.

(08/074) Covid-19 Pandemic…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2022 that 7 prisoners in Seydişehir T Type Closed Prison tested positive for Covid-19.
