(04/101) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2021 that, 6 militants died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in rural areas of Mardin on March 29, 2021; and 1 militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Metina area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 5, 2021.

(04/102) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 8, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(04/103) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police used physical violence to intervene the press declaration of Migros grocery store workers and their supporters, in front of Migros CEO Tuncay Özilhan’s villa on April 8, 2021. The workers at Migros warehouse in Çayırova district of Kocaeli were dismissed after being members of Warehouse, Harbour, Dock and Sea Workers Union (DGD-SEN). It is learned that 36 people were detained and at least 1 person is injured. It is reported that union organizer Kemal Yılmaz was subjected to physical violence of the police for he rejected to be handcuffed behind his back during medical examination at hospital, which resulted bone fracture in his arm. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(04/104) Police Intervention to a Protest in Hatay…

The police intervened the group protesting the Environmental Impact Assessment meeting for the stone pit that is to be established in Akçay neighbourhood of Iskenderun district of Hatay, on April 8, 2021. The police detained 4 members and executives of Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP): Mert Aslanyürek, Çınar Taş, Belgin Ayrancı and Yaren Sakar. Detained people are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(04/105) Detained Mayor, Political Party and Association Members and Executives and Journalist in Diyarbakır…

On April 5, 2021, 24 people including Çınar district mayor Necla Tamriş, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) central executive board member Zeynep Üren and Jinnews reporter Beritan Canözer were detained in house raids in Diyarbakır.

6 people (Socialist Women Assemblies [SKM] central executive board member Satiye Ok, Leyla Akgül, Ayşen Kanuş, Nurşen Akbal, Şehriban Zuğurli, Diyarbakır Women’s Academy member Figen Aras) are arrested by the court on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on April 8, 2021. The court released 9 people (HDP Çınar district former co-chair Hayat Akyol, Zeynep Üren, Eylem Ceylan, Tevgera Jinên Azad [TJA] activist Sevim Biçici, Beritan Canözer, HDP Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun’s press consultant Gurbet Özel, MED-DER co-chair Şilan Elmas Kan, Nalan Özen and Hasibe Akçay) on judicial control conditions and 1 person (Peace Mother Nezahat Teke) on house confinement. It is learned that detention period for 8 people (Zelal Bilgin, Emine Kaya, Diyarbakır city council members Bahar Karakaş Uluğ, Ruken Bekalp, HDP Kayapınar district former co-chair Besile Narin, DBP Diyarbakır provincial co-chair Seval Gülmez, Necla Tamriş, Rabia Tekas) is extended for 48 hours.

(04/106) Detained HDP Executive in Tunceli…

On April 8, 2021, HDP Pertek district co-chair Aydın Köse is detained in a house raid in Tunceli. The reason of detention is unknown.

(04/107) Detained Left Party Executives in Artvin…

It is learned that Hopa district chair of the Left Party was called by the police to remove the banner about Istanbul Convention that was hung outside of district office of the Left Party in Artvin; and that the police came to remove the banner upon it was not removed by the party members.

It is reported that the same banner was hung outside Borçka district office of the Left Party on April 7, 2031; the district chair who was called by the gendarmerie to remove the banner, was detained for not removing it; and was released after statement procedures on the same day.

It is learned that Artvin provincial chair of the Left Party was detained by the police on the grounds of the banner about Istanbul Convention that was hung outside the provincial office on April 8, 2021; and was released after statement procedures.

(04/108) HDP MP on Trial…

The trial of the case against HDP Batman MP Feleknas Uca, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation’ for her declarations in 2015 and 2016, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on April 8, 2021.

The court did not rule on the demand of ending proceedings, for Feleknas Uca is an elected parliamentary member; and adjourned the trial to September 28, 2021.

(04/109) CHP MP on Trial…

The trial of the case against Republican Peoples’ Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Istanbul Bakırköy Penal Court of First Instance No 37 on April 8, 2021.

The court ruled to end the proceedings against Sezgin Tanrıkulu.

(04/110) Journalist on Trial in Kars…

The final trial of the case against journalist Selda Manduz is held at Kars Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 8, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Selda Manduz on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

After defence hearings the court acquitted Selda Manduz.

(04/111) Journalist on Trial in Van…

The indictment of Van Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Oktay Candemir is accepted by Van Heavy Penal Court No 5 on April 8, 2021. The first trial will be held on June 17, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Oktay Candemir on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ for photographs and videos included in the digital material that was seized by the police in the house raid; and for social media posts. It is learned that the social media posts mentioned were shared in 2014 and 2015 and photographs and videos were those taken for the reporting purpose on activities of Democratic Society Party between 2005 and 2009.

(04/112) SGDF Members on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) members Okan Danacı, Yücel Yavuz and Devrim Taylan Eryılmaz is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 27 on April 8, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 3 people on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

3 people joined the trial from prison via sound and vision system. The court released Yücel Yavuz and Devrim Taylan Eryılmaz on judicial control conditions and decided to continue detention of Okan Danacı; and adjourned the trial to June 25, 2021.

Yücel Yavuz and Devrim Taylan Eryılmaz were detained on October 16, 2020 and were arrested by the court on October 19, 2020. Okan Danacı was detained on December 15, 2020 and was arrested on December 16, 2020.

(04/113) Police Raid to Political Party Office in Tunceli…

HDP’s office in Pertek district of Tunceli is raided by the police on April 8, 2021. It is learned that digital material and documents in the party office were seized by the police after the search.

(04/114) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 276 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,203 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 8, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 54,740.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 32,943 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,633,925 as of April 8, 2021.
