It is learned that a person named Baki Kuzey was subjected to physical violence of the watchman he had a quarrel with in Çankaya district of Ankara on September 7, 2023 and was handcuffed behind his back and detained.

It is learned that a person named Ayhan Bora Kaplan was handcuffed behind his back and detained by using physical violence at Ankara Esenboğa Airport on September 8, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of September 8, 2023 that a person named O. Ş. who was taken to Çamdibi Police Station in Bornova district of Izmir on September 4, 2023 from the hospital on the grounds of an arrest warrant and was subjected torture, ill-treatment, sexist and racist expressions there.
O. Ş. stated the following to the press: “They took me to Çamdibi Police Station in Bornova. I learned the situation there. A detention order was issued for me because I did not pay the administrative fine of 3,200 Turkish Liras in Antalya. I explained that I was not able to pay this money. Thereupon, the police’s behaviour became harsher and they started shouting at me (…) We were indoors, they were constantly smoking. I told them not to smoke. Thereupon, one of the police officers said, ‘Do you have any other orders?’, and their voices got louder. I think my epilepsy was triggered, I felt breathless and I told them I would call 112. I also stated that I needed to take medicine. However, the police took pepper spray out of his pocket and sprayed especially on my breasts, face and eye. I fainted at that time, I don’t remember. I was woken up by the police saying ‘get up, you bastard’ and I was handcuffed. Before asking why I was handcuffed, one of the female police officers said things like ‘dirty Kurd, these are your tricks, don’t we know?’. They started beating me again. They threw me into a police vehicle. When I asked for water, they said ‘drink your snot’. They asked, ‘Did the perfume feel good? Did it smell nice?’ because they sprayed pepper spray.”

It is learned from the news coverage of September 8, 2023 that an ill prisoner named Fevzi Arslan in Urfa T Type Prison No. 1 was not given the corset that he was required to use, was not referred to the hospital.

The Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair lawyer Özlem Gümüştaş and the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) executive and the Law Office of the Oppressed member lawyer Sezin Uçar who were detained at Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul where they went to make official statements through an investigation on September 5, 2023, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on September 7, 2023.

Musician Kadir Çat was detained after the event of the Green Left Party (YSP) Youth Assembly in Urfa on September 7, 2023 on the grounds of a song he sang at the event. Kadir Çat was released after statement procedures on the same day.

On September 7, 2023 a person named Şiyar Orhan was detained in a house raid in Van. The reason for detention is unknown.

The trial of the case against ANKA news agency editor-in-chief Mansur Çelik, for a news report about deputy Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on September 7, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Mansur Çelik on the charge of ‘targeting officials who took part in the fight against terrorism’. The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and adjourned the trial to November 9, 2023.
(09/056) Journalists on Trial in Ankara…
The indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against DISK Basın-İş union chair and Gerçek Gündem newspaper’s managing editor Faruk Eren and editor Furkan Karabay, upon the complaint of İrfan Fidan, former Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor and later a member of the Constitutional Court, was accepted by Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on September 4, 2023. The court also ruled to impose a travel ban on 2 journalists. The indictment demands sentence for the journalists on the charge of ‘targeting officials who took part in the fight against terrorism’. The first trial of the case will be held on November 7, 2023.
(09/057) Prisoners on Trial in Ankara…
The first trial of the case against Ayla Akat Ata, Meryem Adıbelli, Dilek Yağlı, Pervin Oduncu and Ayşe Yağcı, prisoners held in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison, on the grounds that they made lemon juice in the ward, is held at Ankara West Penal Court of First Instance No. 11 on September 7, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for the prisoners on the charge of ‘bringing prohibited items into the Execution Institution or Detention House’. Prisoners could not attend the trial due to a malfunction in sound and vision system. The court adjourned the trial to October 20, 2023.

It is learned that the Idil Cultural Center in Okmeydanı neighbourhood of Istanbul was raided by the police and 10 people were detained on September 8, 2023. Detained people are: Dilan Poyraz, Eser Çelik, Rıdvan Akbaş, Sevda Kurban, Seher Adıgüzel, Vedat Doğan, Barış Yüksel, Rezzan Şengül, Hakan İnci, Merve Kurt.
