It is learned that Sibel Balaç, who is on hunger strike in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison since December 19, 2021 to demand a fair trial, was referred to Dışkapı Yıldırım Bayezit Public Hospital on September 7, 2022 to get medical report in relation to the plea for a stay of execution.
(09/073) Journalists on Trial in Van…
It is learned that Van Public Prosecutor’ Office prepared an indictment against Mezopotamya News Agency grant holder Ferhat Çelik and Jiyan TV grant holder İdris Yayla, for the news reports titled “It is the same prosecutor giving the detention order for journalists”, regarding the journalists who were detained after making news reports about the incident in Çatak district of Van where 1 person died and 1 person was injured as a result of being thrown from a helicopter. The indictment demands sentence for 2 journalists on the charge of ‘targeting officers who took charge in fight against terrorism’. It is learned that the indictment was accepted by Van Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on September 7, 2022 and the first trial will be held on November 22, 2022.
(09/074) People on Trial in Istanbul…
The first trial of the case against 52 people, who were detained at the Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul where they have been to support students who were detained for carrying rainbow flags during the protests against the rector appointment to Boğaziçi University by the President; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 17 on September 7, 2022. The court issued a warrant for 5 defendants who did not join the trial and adjourned the trial to January 13, 2023.
(09/075) Ban and Confiscation Decision on a Book…
It is learned from the news coverage of September 8, 2022 that, Antalya Penal Court of Peace No. 6 decided to ban the poetry book “Yıkılacak Duvarlar” (The Walls to Demolish) written by Figen Yüksekdağ, former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), and published by Ceylan Publications. The court also ruled that printing and distribution of the book will be banned, and the issues of the book will be removed from stores and will be destroyed, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’.
(09/076) Person on Trial for Social Media Account in Antep
The final trial of the case through “Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation/Parallel State Structure” investigations against Hüseyin Y., manager of the social media account “Kaç saat oldu”, is held at Antep Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on September 7, 2022. The court sentenced Hüseyin Y. to 12 years and 6 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court also ruled to continue detention of Hüseyin Y. who was detained on May 1, 2022 and was arrested on May 6, 2022.

The final trial of the case against David Keynes, licence owner of ByLock, the encrypted messaging application, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 29 on September 7, 2022. The court ruled no sentence for David Keynes, according to the effective remorse law.
