(07/049) Male Violence Monitoring Report……
According to the “Record of Male Violence” published by Bianet, at least 30 women and 2 children were killed by men across Turkey in June 2026. The report also noted that men subjected at least 45 women to violence, harassed 13 women, abused 19 children, and forced 78 women into sex work.
(07/050) Journalist Subjected to Torture and Other Ill-Treatment…
On July 6, 2026, journalist Hazar Dost was detained by police in Istanbul while shopping on the grounds that his statement in an ongoing case against him was incomplete. It was reported that he was subjected to physical violence by police at the Çağlayan Courthouse, where he was taken for questioning.
(07/051) Interventions, Detentions, and Bans Regarding NATO Summit Protests…
On July 7, 2026, police intervened in a protest organized by the Labor and Democracy Platform in Eskişehir and detained 35 people using physical violence.
On July 7, 2026, police intervened in a protest organized by Umut-Sen and the Youth Committees on Istiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, and detained 12 people using physical violence.
On July 7, 2026, police intervened in a protest held in Kadıköy, Istanbul, and detained one person using physical force.
On July 7, 2026, following a march held in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, three members of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) were detained in Taksim.
It was reported that on July 7, 2026, in Kadıköy, Istanbul, one person protesting the NATO Summit at a metro station was detained by police and private security forces using physical force.
On July 7, 2026, in Ankara’s Kızılay Square, two people protesting the NATO Summit were detained following a police intervention.
On July 5, 2026, academic Sibel Özbudun and writer Temel Demirer, who were detained in Ankara, were released on July 7, 2026, by the magistrate’s court to which they were referred, subject to judicial supervision.

Journalist Berfin Ay, who was detained during a road checkpoint at the entrance to the Cizre district of Şırnak on July 5, 2026, was released on judicial supervision by the magistrate’s court to which she was referred on July 7, 2026.
(07/053) Trial of a Journalist in Istanbul…
The trial of journalist Furkan Karabay—a case filed with the Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 12 seeking 150,000 TL in damages on the grounds of two news reports he wrote and related social media posts—continued on July 8, 2026. The court adjourned the hearing until February 10, 2027.
