(02/074) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Mardin…

It is learned that Kadir Işık, former district co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) was subjected to torture and ill-treatment in a house raid in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on February 7, 2022. It is reported that Kadir Işık was handcuffed behind his back, was hit to the wall at the head, and his nose was broken.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 7, 2022 that, in Istanbul Maltepe L Type Prison No 2, prisoners cannot use telephones for the last 8 days due to breakdown in the lines; and that 50 prisoners are staying in a ward for 25 people.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 7, 2022 that, health condition of Seyithan Ay, a prisoner in Diyarbakır D Type Closed Prison, is deteriorating due to false treatment at Dicle University Research and Training Hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 7, 2022 that, Abdürrahim Demir, an ill prisoner in Edirne F Type Prison, cannot receive treatment as he rejects handcuffed examination and in-mouth search.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on February 7, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(02/078) Police Intervention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police prevented the press declaration in Mamak district of Ankara on February 7, 2022, which was to protest the repression on street musicians playing Kurdish songs. It is reported that the police said “I will never ever let you sing in Kurdish. Go find a closed area if you want to do so. Go play in a wedding hall”.

(02/079) Police Intervention to a Protest in Şırnak…

The police prevented the press declaration about the raise in electricity prices, in Idil district of Şırnak on February 7, 2022. The group started to march towards Dicle Electricity Distribution Company upon the police prevention due to precautions for Covid-19 pandemic, and the police used pepper spray to intervene the group. It is learned that nobody was detained.

(02/080) Police Intervention to a Protest in Van…

The police intervened the press declaration in front of Van Research and Training Hospital on February 8, 2022, as a part of one-day-strike of health employees. The intervention was grounded on the governorate ban on events, and 8 people were detained. Detained people (HRFT physician and Van-Hakkari Medical Chamber secretary Ayfer Bostan, HRFT physician and Van-Hakkari Medical Chamber chair Hüseyin Yaviç, Health and Social Service Employees’ Union (SES) branch co-chairs Figen Çolakoğlu and Zeki Seven, branch women’s secretary Seda Güler, branch supervisory board chair Mehmet Emin Yılmaz and union members Esma Gümüşlü and Keziban Karakuş) are released after statement procedures on the same day.

Journalist Nurcan Yalçın who was detained in Diyarbakır on February 4, 2022, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 7, 2022.

(02/082) Detained HDP Members in Mardin…

On February 7, 2022, 3 people (Kadir Işık, former district co-chair of HDP and Özgür Ermiş and Çekdar Ermiş) are detained in house raids in Kızıltepe district of Mardin.

(02/083) Detained People for Social Media Posts…

2 people in Ankara and 1 child in Bursa who were detained for their social media posts about the President’s health condition, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 7, 2022.

(02/084) Investigation Against Journalist…

It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office and Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate launched two investigations against Etkin News Agency editor Pınar Gayıp, for her news reports and social media posts. It is learned that Pınar Gayıp made her official statement to the prosecutor’s office on February 7, 2022 but she used her right to remain silent about the Security Directorate’s investigation.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 7, 2022 that, a detention warrant was issued against Avrasya Research Company chair Kemal Özkiraz, through the investigation for his social media post about Ahmet Mahmut Ünlü (known as Cübbeli “Cloaked” Ahmet) in 2019.

(02/086) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 236 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 96,514 as of February 7, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 88,970 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 12,335,015 as of February 7, 2022.

It is learned that professor Murat Özcan in Istanbul lost his life due to Covid-19 on February 7, 2022.
