It is learned that a person named Eray Arık, who was reported to have fired at the police from the roof of the house he was in, died as a result of the fire opened by the police in Tarsus district of Mersin on December 7, 2022. It is also reported that 5 police officers were injured in the incident.

It is learned that 3 soldiers in a gendarmerie car involving in an accident were injured in Karaman on December 8, 2022.

It is learned that Öztürk Yılmaz, chair of the Innovation Party, was attacked and injured by an unknown person with a knife at the party’s headquarters in Ankara on December 7, 2022.

(12/071) Metropolitan Co-Mayor on Trial…
On December 6, 2022, the Penal Department No. 3 of the Court of Cassation overturned the sentence of 9 years, 4 months and 15 days given by Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 to Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, who was dismissed by the Ministry of Interior and replaced by a trustee on 19 August 2019, on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. It is reported that the Court of Cassation rejected the release demand.

The final trial of the case against journalists Can Bursalı and Barış Terkoğlu and the Independent Turkish newspaper, with a demand for non-pecuniary damages of 300,000 Turkish Liras over the news report about the allegation that one of the President’s former lawyers received 15 million Turkish Liras as the attorney’s fee from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 11 on December 7, 2022. The court dismissed the case.

The trial of the case against lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan (Rezan Sarıca, Ali Maden, Baran Doğan, Cengiz Yürekli, İnan Akmeşe, Mahmut Taşçı and Mehmet Selim Okçuoğlu) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 33 on December 7, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for 7 lawyers on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court adjourned the trial to December 21, 2022.
(12/074) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…
The trial of the case against Women’s Academy member Figen Aras through the investigation against Rosa Women’s Association is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 10 on December 7, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Figen Aras on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to March 8, 2023.
Figen Aras was detained on April 5, 2021 and was arrested on April 8, 2021. The court has released her at the first trial on September 22, 2021. She was detained once again on November 29, 2022 through the Ankara based investigation against Tevgera Jînen Azad – Free Women’s Movement (TJA) activists and was arrested by the court on December 3, 2022.
(12/075) Investigation Against Lawyer in Izmir…
It is learned from the news coverage of December 8, 2022 that an administrative investigation was launched against İ. K., a lawyer of the legal consultancy department of the Turkish State Railways in Izmir, on the grounds of having the book “Leylan” written by the former co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Selahattin Demirtaş in the drawer, upon the complaint of another lawyer sharing the room. It is also reported that İ. K. who was transferred to Malatya province, also gave a statement to the police within the scope of the report.
