(04/026) Labor Killings…

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) declared on April 8, 2025 that at least 145 workers including 7 women, 6 children and 4 migrants/refugees died while working in March 2025.

(04/027) Prisoner Died in Prison

It is learned from news coverage of April 8, 2025 that Kadir Coşkun, a prisoner in Izmir Ödemiş T Type Open Prison, died on the day he was going to go on holiday leave.

Kadir Coşkun’s son Tolga Coşkun stated the following in his statement on the death of his father: “He was fine when we met him a week ago. When we were called by his fellow inmates, we were told that my father was getting worse. There was no doctor in prison. No intervention was made when his condition worsened. When we went to pick my father up from prison, his heart had stopped. An ambulance was not called for my father, so he was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. He was given 47 minutes of heart massage but he could not be saved.”,

On April 7, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of April 7, 2025 that, Cem Dursun, a prisoner in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison No 6 was transferred to Bolu F Type Prison against his will.

(04/029) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

On April 7, 2025 it is learned from news coverage of April 7, 2025 that, Soydan Akay, an ill prisoner in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison No 9, was referred to the hospital in the prison campus for a suspected heart attack and was taken back to Prison No 9 on the grounds of “high blood pressure” without being treated.

(04/030) Prisoners’ Release Postponed by Prison Administration and Observation Board…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 7, 2025 that, the release of Soydan Akay, a prisoner in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Prison No 9, who completed the execution of his life sentence, was postponed for the 4th time on February 10, 2025 by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (CİGK).

(04/031) Interventions and Detentions to Protests Against the Detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor…

Eren Öner, Labour Party executive board member Eren Öner was detained on April 7, 2025 at Bursa Courthouse where he went to give his statement through the investigation against him for participating in the protests in Bursa against the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Eren Öner was released by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on April 8, 2025 under house confinement.

DİSK/Enerji-Sen chair Süleyman Keskin gave his official statement at Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse on April 7, 2025 through the investigation against him for the same reason. Süleyman Keskin is released after statement procedures with a ban on leaving the country.

(04/032) People on Trial in Istanbul

On April 8, 2025, Istanbul 49th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 139 people for participating in protests against the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The indictment demands 139 people to be sentenced for ‘violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘resisting to prevent the execution of duty’ and ‘insulting the President’.

On April 7, 2024, it is learned that the police prevented the march of students at Middle East Technical University campus in Ankara.

(04/034) Co-Mayor on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Besile Narin, co-mayor of Hani district of Diyarbakır, continued on April 8, 2025 at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4. The indictment demands sentence for Besile Narin on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court adjourned the trial to June 26, 2025.

(04/035) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against journalist Sibel Hürtaş, for the word “torturer” she used against police officers in a court case, started on April 7, 2025 at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 37. After the defenses, the court announced its verdict and acquitted Sibel Hürtaş on the charge of ‘insulting a public officer’.

(04/036) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Rahime Karvar, who is held in Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison, was accepted by Istanbul 24th Assize Court on April 8, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘membership of an illegal organization’. The first hearing of the case will be held on June 12, 2025.

Rahime Karvar was detained on January 17, 2025 and was arrested on January 20, 2025.

(04/037) Association Member on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) member Zeynep Tekin started on April 8, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26. The indictment demands sentence for Zeynep Tekin on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The court released Zeynep Tekin and adjourned the trial to September 11, 2025.

Zeynep Tekin was detained on January 21, 2025 and arrested on January 24, 2025.

(04/038) Access Restricted Internet Contents…

It is learned that journalists Umut Taştan and Elif Çetiner and 3 social media accounts of Women’s Solidarity network were banned from access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ within the scope of Article 8/A of Law No. 5651 and the accounts were made invisible from Turkey.
