(05/053) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 7, 2021 that, 2 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on May 5, 2021; and 1 militant died in a clash in Avaşin area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 27, 2021.

(05/054) Civilian Died in Bombing in Tunceli…

It is learned that a civilian (Murat Yıldız) who was picking mushrooms during the military operation in rural areas of Ovacık district of Tunceli on May 9, 2021, lost his life after his car was bombed by armed unmanned aerial vehicle and military helicopters.

(05/055) Soldier Died from Covid-19 in Ankara…

The Ministry of National Defence declared that Alper Güner, a master gunner candidate at Ankara Artillery and Missile School Command, lost his life from Covid-19 on May 9, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 9, 2021 that, Halil Şimşek, a prisoner in Çanakkale Prison, lost his life from Covid-19 on May 9, 2021.

(05/057) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 7, 2021 that, Mehmet Dersulu, a prisoner in Bolu F Type Prison, was subjected to physical violence of correction officers on April 29 and May 5, 2021. Mehmet Dersulu was one of the participators of “I Want My Job Back” protests in Yüksel Street, Ankara.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 8, 2021 that, Kurbani Özcan, a prisoner in Diyarbakır T Type Prison No 3, was subjected to physical violence of correction officers which caused finger bone fracture.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 9, 2021 that, Garibe Gezer, a prisoner in Kandıra F Type Prison No 1, was subjected to a disciplinary proceeding which resulted in a solitary cell confinement of 11 days; for she named the prison director and chief correction officer of Kayseri Prison as responsible of the torture and ill-treatment that she has been subjected there. It is reported that Garibe Gezer was given a second penalty of solitary cell confinement of 11 days, as a result of another disciplinary proceeding for she protested the isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 9, 2021 that, Zeki Kayar, a prisoner in Balıkesir Bandırma T Type Prison No 1, was subjected to a disciplinary proceeding for he participated in the hunger strike demanding an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan; and he was being prevented from some activities in prison as a result.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 7, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(05/059) Asylum Seekers Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 9, 2021 that, 5 Afghan asylum seekers who were detained by the gendarmerie in rural areas of Van, in an alleged attempt to illegally cross to Turkey from Iran, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment and got wounded. It is stated that asylum seekers were deported to Iran.

(05/060) Police Intervention to Prayers in Mosques in Adana…

4 members of the Furkan Foundation including Alparslan Kuytul, the founding chair, who were detained in police intervention to “itikaf” prayers in several mosques in Adana on May 4, 2021, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on May 8, 2021.

(05/061) Investigation on Social Media Post in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of May 7, 2021 that, 1 person who was subjected to an investigation for a social media post reading “LGBTI+ children do exist”, made an official statement through investigation at Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Security.

(05/062) Detained Person in Çanakkale for ‘Insulting the President’…

Ahmet Saymadi, a member of the Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) is detained in Çanakkale on May 8, 2021, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in a social media post in 2016. Ahmet Saymadi is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(05/063) Cemil Kırbayır Case…

On May 7, 2021, Penal Department No 8 of the Court of Cassation reversed the verdict of the local court of Ardahan in 2014, which ruled to lift non-prosecution decision of 2002; and closed the file of forced disappearance of Cemil Kırbayır. Cemil Kırbayır has been detained in Ardahan on September 13, 1980 and has been forcibly disappeared.

(05/064) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 278 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,210 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 7, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 20,107.

The Ministry of Health declared that 281 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,178 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 8, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 18,052.

The Ministry of Health declared that 304 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,401 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 9, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 22,388.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 43,029 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,031,332 as of May 9, 2021.

It is learned that pharmacist Ceyda Nazlı in Istanbul lost her life from Covid-19 on May 8, 2021.

It is learned that doctor Levent Kamış in Ankara lost his life from Covid-19 on May 9, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 9, 2021 that, several prisoners in Erzurum H Type, Sakarya Ferizli and Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s prisons tested positive for Covid-19.
