(01/055) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence declared that 3 soldiers (Murat Alyakut, Ertuğrul Ulupınar, Enes Koç) died in an explosion during passage of a military vehicle of Turkish Armed Forces on the Syrian border in Akçakale district of Urfa on January 8, 2022.

(01/056) Attack on Political Party Executive in Diyarbakır…

Salih Sargın, Diyarbakır provincial chair of the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) was subjected to knife attack of anonymous two persons in front of his house in Kayapınar district on January 6, 2022. It is learned that Salih Sargın was wounded in his leg.

(01/057) Person Died by Police Fire in Konya…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 7, 2022 that, the police fired on 3 people in a car on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning’ in Kulu district of Konya on January 1, 2022. It is learned that Beytullah Gölcük, one of the passengers who was wounded at the head, died at Kulu Public Hospital on January 5, 2022. A police officer (D. Y.) who was detained is arrested by the court on January 6, 2022.

It is learned that an asylum seeker was frozen to death in Karpuzlu town of İpsala district of Edirne on January 8, 2022.

(01/059) Racist Attack in Istanbul…

It is learned that a racist group shouting “This is Turkey, not Syria” and attacked by stones on the shop of a Syrian citizen in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on January 9, 2022. It is reported that the attack caused material damage on the shop. Istanbul Governorate’s Office declared that 7 people were detained in relation to the attack.

(01/060) Racist Attack in Ankara…

It is learned that 3 Kurdish students were attacked by a racist group of 30 persons in front of the Faculty of Law of Ankara University on January 9, 2022 and that 1 person (K. Y.) was wounded at the head by knife. It is reported that 2 people who were detained in relation to the attack are released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office on January 10, 2022.

(01/061) Racist Attack in Ankara…

It is learned that an Afghanistani family in Pursaklar district of Ankara was attacked by a racist group on January 9, 2022 and at least 1 person was wounded.

(01/062) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on January 7, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on January 7, 2022 at 13.30 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police intervened the press declaration of Şişli Municipality workers in front of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) headquarters on January 7, 2022 and forced people away from the building by using physical violence.

(01/065) Detained People in Şırnak…

On January 9, 2022, 14 people are detained in house raids in İdil and Cizre districts of Şırnak and in Siirt, through a Şırnak based investigation. It is learned that detained people are restricted from seeing their lawyers for 24 hours. Detained people are: MEBYA-DER member Hüseyin İnedi, Birca Belek Language and Culture Association executive Aziz Sönmez, Mele Sait Özdemir, Şükrü Acar, Mehmet Emin Çıkmaz, Mazlum Duru, Kamil Baklık, Mustafa Çömlek, İdris Kayaalp, Selman Abay, Agit Işıklı and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Youth Assembly member Berfin Can.

(01/066) Detained HDP Executive in Şırnak…

It is learned that HDP district executive Boran Em in Cizre district of Şırnak is detained on the grounds of looking at a car convoy which includes the car of municipality trustee on January 8, 2022. It is learned that Boran Em is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(01/067) Police Officer on Trial in Elazığ…

The final trial of the case against police officer B. T., on the grounds of wounding S. T. who was 14 years old back then, at the head by a long barrelled weapon during an intervention to a protest in Hakkari in 2009, is held on January 7, 2022.

The court sentenced the police officer to 5 years on the charge of ‘aggravated injury’ and rejected to arrest the police officer.

The case was first opened in Hakkari but then moved to Isparta Penal Court of First Instance No 3 for security reasons, and the local court has sentenced the police officer to 6 months and 7 days and converted the sentence to a penalty fine. Following the appeal of S. T.’s lawyers, the Constitutional Court has ruled that right to live was violated and sent back the case file for a retrial

(01/068) Political Party Members and Executives on Trial in Antep…

The final trial of the case against 91 members and executives of HDP and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) is held at Antep Heavy Penal Court No 2 on January 7, 2022.

The court sentenced 5 people (Abdullah İnce, İsmail Berkpınar, Mehmet Özkan, Müslüm Kılıç, Selman Tutumlu) to 7 years and 6 months each and 47 people (Ahmet İlbaş, Abdullah Açar, Ali Yıldız, Abdulmutalip Kılıç, Atiye Okay, Ayfer Doğan, Azime Balı, Bahri Yariş, Birgül Yıldırım, Bircan Demir, Cengiz Tunç, Durri Kaygusuz, Emin Kavak, Fatma Dikici, Fatma Lebe, Faik Dursun, Guli Yaman, Güler Erat, Habat Gengeç, Hamza Bayındır, Halil Kılıç, Hatice Küçüker, Habibe Öcal Tişkiya, Hasan Saran, Hurşit Besle, İbrahim Kaya, Mehmet Karayılan, Kasım Şan, Mahmut Aycan, Mehmet Aşkar, Mehmet Çiftçi, Mehmet Şahin, Mehmet Zeki Demir, Mustafa Tunç, Münevver Yılmaz, Nafi Demir, Nesibe Çınar, Nuray Göktepe, Ömer Faruk Koç, Remziye Erdem, Raziye Kuş, Sedika Yaman, Sultan Bayındır, Songül Koçdağ, Sevinç Selçuk, Şükrü Özalan, Tahir Altuğ) to 6 years and 3 months each on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court sentenced 10 people to 10 months each on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict. The court acquitted 28 people and dropped the case against 1 deceased defendant.

It is learned that Kulu Sub-Governorate made a criminal complaint against unknown number of persons for social media posts on Beytullah Gölcük, who has lost his life by police fire in Kulu district of Konya on January 5, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 9, 2022 that, Fatma Yavuz, an employee of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is targeted by some newspapers with headlines such as “Armenian lover and enemy of Turks”.

It is learned that Etkin News Agency’s website https://www.etha29.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 4 on January 6, 2022.

It is learned that 3 news reports about Ege University published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr and https://t24.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by İzmir Penal Court of Peace No 4 on January 7, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports and contents about mayor of Yunak district of Konya published on www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr, https://www.milligazete.com.tr, https://eksisozluk.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Konya Akşehir Penal Court of Peace on January 8, 2022.

(01/072) Ban of Events in Tunceli…

Tunceli Governorate made a declaration on January 9, 2022 and announced that all outdoor meetings, demonstrations, assemblies, protests, sit-in protests, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, concerts, festivals, distributing leaflets, hanging banners, firing and carrying torches, conferences, panel talks and so on are banned for 15 days as of January 9, 2022.

(01/073) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On January 7, 2022, 14 people are detained in operations covering 9 cities through an Erzurum based investigation.

On January 8, 2022, 57 people are detained in operations covering 25 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(01/074) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 157 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 63,214 as of January 7, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 141 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 66,237 as of January 8, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 173 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 61,727 as of January 9, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 83,702 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 9,978,452 as of January 9, 2021.

It is learned that doctor Nuray Sevim in Aksaray lost her life due to Covid-19 on January 8, 2022.
