It is learned from the news coverage of April 9, 2023 that, 1 HPG militant and 1 civilian (Lokman Güngör [53]) died in a clash reported to be between security forces and HPG militants in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on April 8, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2023 that, a child named R. K. (17, f) who was detained in Van on April 6, 2023, was taken to Anti-Terror Department instead of Juvenile Department and was subjected to strip search there.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 9, 2023 that, the cameras in the wards of Antalya Manavgat S Type Prison was seeing the bathrooms and restrooms, and the prisoners were not given napkins on the grounds that they were using them to cover the cameras.

It is learned that the appeal made on April 7, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

The police intervened in the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/ People held at the Galatasaray Square of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on April 8, 2023, and detained 15 people including the Human Rights Association (HRA) co-chair Eren Keskin and HRA Istanbul branch chair Gülseren Yoleri. It is learned that the police prevented journalist from recording the intervention. Detained people are released on the same day. Detained people were: Besna Tosun, Maside Ocak, Ali Ocak, Hanife Yıldız, Sebla Arcan, Gülseren Yoleri, Eren Keskin, İrfan Bilgin, İkbal Eren, Deniz Zeybek, Aylin Tekiner, Feyyaz Yaman, Ayşe Tepe, Mikail Kırbayır, Leman Yurtsever.
(04/074) Gendarmerie Intervention to Protest in Muğla…
The gendarmerie intervened in the watch protest against the cement factory planned to be established in Deştin village of Menteşe district of Muğla on April 8, 2023 and detained 11 people including 2 children, by using physical violence. 2 children were released after statement procedures at the gendarmerie while 9 people were released by the court on judicial control conditions.

The trial of the case against Agos newspaper’s writer and Armenian pages’ editor Pakrat Estukyan, Cihan Doğan, lawyer Emran Emekçi, Mehmet Nimet Sevim and Demokratik Modernite magazine editor in chief Ramazan Yurttapan, on the grounds of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 30 on April 7, 2023. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 7, 2023.

The trial of the case against journalist Mehmet Baransu, on the grounds of insulting the President and a public official in the news reports he made, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 60 on April 7, 2023. Mehmet Baransu joined the trial via sound and vision system from prison. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial.

The trial of the case against journalist Cengiz Çandar on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 30 on April 10, 2023. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to May 16, 2023.

It is learned that Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Mezopotamya Agency reporter Cengiz Özbaşar over the news reports about Dicle Electricity Distribution Company (DEDAŞ) and that Cengiz Özbaşar made his official statement through the investigation on April 7, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 8, 2023 that, Samsun Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against a 15-year-old child named H. S., upon the complaint of Samsun Metropolitan Mayor over the child’s social media posts, and that the child made official statement to the prosecutor.

It is learned that the Etkin News Agency’s website https://www.etha51.com is banned to access on the grounds of ‘protection of national security and public order’ by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No. 5 on April 6, 2023.

It is learned that the Republican People’s Party (CHP) office in Nilüfer district of Bursa was attacked by anonymous person or persons which caused material damage at the office on April 8, 2023.
It is learned that 6 members of the Left Party including deputy candidate and provincial executives who were detained during the electoral campaign in Bolu on April 8, 2023, are released on the same day.
(04/082) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…
The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on April 9, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,915 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,787 of them were identified and given to their families, 41 children were in the hospital, 79 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 21 children could not be identified.
It is learned from the news coverage that, the number of contractors who were arrested for their responsibility in the buildings collapsed in Antep and Maraş earthquakes is 330 as of April 10, 2023.
