According to the ‘Male Violence Tally Sheet’ published by Bianet, at least 36 women and 2 children were killed by men across Turkey in April 2025. The statement also stated that men inflicted violence on at least 44 women, harassed 15 women, abused 39 children and forced 59 women to sex work.

İnşaat-İş Organizing Officer Deniz Gezer was detained in Istanbul on 6 May 2025 on the grounds of a warrant for his arrest. Deniz Gezer was released the same day after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 7, 2025 that Nihat Göktaş, member of Human Rights Association (IHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Commission, and Hülya Gerçek, member of IHD, were detained in a house raid in Istanbul on May 5, 2025, on the allegations of “financing terrorism” by sending money to a prisoner in need and being monitored by the prison commission.

The trial of the case against journalist Diren Yurtsever started on May 7, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23. The court acquitted Diren Yurtsever on the charge of “revealing or disseminating the identities of informers”.

The trial of the case against journalist Hakkı Boltan on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on May 6, 2025. The court adjourned the trial to November 6, 2025.

The indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Halk TV main news anchor Ece Üner was accepted by Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance No. 19 on May 6, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Ece Üner on the charges of ‘publicly denigrating the judicial organs of the state’ and ‘attempting to influence a fair trial’.

The first trial of the case against Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Sultangazi District Chair Gamze Toprak started on May 6, 2025 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 26. The court released Gamze Toprak and adjourned the trial to September 25, 2025.
Gamze Toprak was detained on January 21, 2025 and was arrested on January 24, 2025.

It is learned from news coverage of May 6, 2025 that, rainbow flags carried by Women’s Defence Network cortege at May 1 rally in Bursa were prevented by the police on the grounds of the agreement with May 1 organizing committee and were seized.

It is learned that the police intervened a person carrying a rainbow flag during a march in Istanbul on May 6, 2025, the death anniversary of Deniz Gezmiş and his friends, and seized the flag.
