(03/068) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the “Male Violence Monitoring Report” published by Bianet on March 7, 2024, at least 37 women and 3 children were killed by men across Turkey in February 2024. It is also stated that men inflicted violence on at least 43 women, abused 4 children, and forced 34 women into sex work.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 6, 2024, that during ward searches in Diyarbakır High-Security Prison No 2, correction officers damaged prisoners’ belongings and committed verbal violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 6, 2024, that in Antep İslahiye T Type Prison, ward searches are conducted every day and personal belongings of prisoners are scattered, correction officers used verbal violence against prisoners during ward searches, and that prisoners’ belongings such as pillows and wall clocks are taken away by correction officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 6, 2024, that water wells in Kütahya T Type Prison are empty and there are water cuts until the wells are full.

It is learned that the appeal made by lawyers on March 7, 2024, to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım, and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded to by Bursa Public Prosecutor’s Office.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 6, 2024, that on March 5, 2024, an unidentified person attacked the election liaison office of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in the Homurlu neighborhood of Akdeniz district of Mersin and ripped off the flags. It is reported that the DEM Party Mersin Provincial Organization filed a complaint to the police about the attack.

According to the news coverage of March 6, 2024, Afyon Mayor Candidate Burcu Köksal, speaking at the opening of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Election Coordination Center on Ordu Boulevard in Afyon, said “When I am elected, the doors of Afyonkarahisar Municipality will be open to all political parties except DEM Party”.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 6, 2024, that opera singer Güvenç Dağüstün was detained at Milas Bodrum Airport for not paying a fine in a defamation case and was released by the prosecutor’s office.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 7, 2024, that Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against İsmail Arı, reporter of BirGün newspaper, on the grounds of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’ for a news report and social media post he made on March 10, 2023, on Kızılay, and that the journalist gave his official statement through the investigation.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 7, 2024, that 16 content on social media platforms related to allegations against the mayor of Hilal town in the Uludere district of Şırnak were banned from access by the decision of Şırnak Uludere Criminal Peace Judgeship.
