It is learned from the news coverage of July 7, 2023 that, 2 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Avaşin area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 7, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 7, 2023 that, a prisoner named Emrah Doğan was not allowed by Bolu Public Prosecutor’s Office, on the grounds of security reasons, to participate in the funeral of his brother.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 7, 2023 that, the Peoples’ Democratic party (HDP) Party Assembly member Doğan Erbaş was not allowed to participate in her mother’s funeral as Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office did not make a decision on the subject.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 7, 2023 that, a prisoner named Ozan Alpkaya in Ankara Sincan High Security Prison No. 1 was not given 17 Kurdish books sent to him. It is stated in the news reports that, the prison administration responded the prisoner as follows: “Prison Education Commission can only review the Turkish books sent. If you want the Kurdish books sent to you to reach you, you will write two petitions: For the first petition, you will say, ‘I want an interpreter for my Kurdish books’ and in the second petition, you will say ‘I demand that the translator’s money taken from my account after the translator reads and approves the Kurdish books sent to me’’.

The final trial of the case against 15 people who were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held in Van on October 10, 2018 to commemorate those who were killed in Ankara – October 10 Massacre, is held at Van Penal Court of First Instance No. 7 on July 6, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 15 people on the charge of ‘resisting to prevent public duty’. The court acquitted 14 people and sentenced 1 person (Bedir Yamaç) to 8 months and postponed the sentence.

The final trial of the case against Cumhuriyet newspaper reporter Hazal Ocak, photographer Vedat Arık, executive editor Olcay Büyüktaş Akça and managing editor İpek Özbey, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 26 on July 7, 2023. The case was opened for the news reports about Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s demolishing of construction built in public property rented by Fahrettin Altun, Communications Director Republic of Turkey. The court acquitted journalists.

The trial of the case against journalist Rüstem Batum on the grounds of his expressions on a television programme in 2015, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 43 on July 7, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Rüstem Batum on the charge of ‘publicly degrading the military and security organisation of the state’ in accordance with the Article 301 of Turkish Penal Code. The court decided to issue a warrant for Rüstem Batum and adjourned the trial to December 19, 2023.

It is learned that the concert of Grup Yorum band to be held in Sultangazi district of Istanbul on July 7, 2023 for solidarity with earthquake survivors, was banned by the district governorate’s office on July 6, 2023.
(07/063) Curfew in Bitlis…
Bitlis Governorate’s Office made a declaration on July 6, 2023 and lifted the curfew in 10 villages of Hizan district as of 21.00 which was announced on July 2, 2023 at 21.00 until a further notice. The villages under curfew were: Bilgili, Yaylacık, Sarıbal, Yeniçay, Yolbilen, Çalışkanlar, Gedik, Akyazı, Erencik and Otluk.

Hakkari Governorate’s Office made a declaration on July 7, 2023 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 15 days as of July 7, 2023.
