According to Bianet’s “Male Violence Register,”, at least 28 women and 4 children were killed by men across Turkey in December 2025. The statement also stated that men inflicted violence on at least 51 women, harassed 14 women, abused 59 children and forced 153 women to sex work.

On January 6, 2026 it is learned from news coverage of January 6, 2026 that Emin Kalkan, a prisoner in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2 was not allowed to attend the condolence for his father who died on January 4, 2026, on the grounds of “security and bad weather conditions”.

On January 6, 2026, the police intervened the march organized by Free University Movement on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul about student scholarships and loans and detained 6 people by using physical violence. 6 people were released on the same day after statement procedures at the police.

The trial of the case against journalist Hakkı Boltan on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘insulting a public officer’ is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on January 6, 2026. The court adjourned the trial to April 14, 2026.

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against journalist Perihan Kaya for her professional activities and social media posts was held on Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10 on January 7, 2026. The court sentenced Perihan Kaya to 1 year 6 months and 22 days for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and did not postpone the sentence.
In the lawsuit filed against journalist Perihan Kaya at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 10, journalist Perihan Kaya was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’ and acquitted of ‘being an illegal organization member’. The verdict was overturned by the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeals on the grounds that ‘the sentence was incomplete’.

The first trial of the case against 10 people including Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik, regarding the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, started on January 6, 2026 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 72. The indictment demands sentence for 10 people on the charge of ‘opposing the Law on Political Parties’. The court adjourned the trial to June 9, 2026.

On January 6, 2026, it is learned from news coverage of January 6, 2026 that Murat Kırcı, for whom an investigation was initiated by the Çorum Public Prosecutor’s Office on the grounds of a social media post about Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, gave a statement.
