(04/059) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 6, 2021 that, 1 HPG militant died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Gare area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on April 4, 2021.

(04/060) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of Police in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 6, 2021 that, a person (Burak Ali Celal Kırıcı) was subjected to physical violence of the police after he had a quarrel with a traffic police officer on March 13, 2021. It is stated in the news reports that Burak Ali Celal Kırıcı was subjected to verbal and physical violence, first in the car that he was forced into by the officer he had a quarrel with and then in a deserted place that he was taken by 7 or 8 other police officers.

It is reported that Burak Ali Celal Kırıcı had a medical report evidencing the violence and made a criminal complaint against the officers. It is learned that the police report states that gradual force was exercised on him.

(04/061) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of April 6, 2021 that 3 prisoners were subjected to physical violence of correction officers in Elazığ High Security Prison No 2. It is reported that Mahmut Çakmak had bruises on his body due to physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 6, 2021 that İhsan Uğur, former co-mayor of Hizan district who is kept in Diyarbakır High Security Prison No 2 was subjected to disciplinary proceeding for he participated in the hunger strike, and as a result he was penalised with prevention form social activities for 1 month.

(04/062) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on April 6, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(04/063) Detained Iranian Asylum Seekers in Denizli…

On April 5, 2021, 4 Iranian asylum seekers (Esmaeil Fattahi, Leili Faraji, Zeinab Sahafi and Mohammad Pourakbari Kermani) were detained in Denizli, on the grounds of ‘disturbing public order’ for they participated in the protest about Istanbul Convention on March 20, 2021. It is learned that 4 asylum seekers were sent to Aydın Repatriation Center to be deported on April 6, 2021. It is learned that the lawyers of asylum seekers will object the deportation verdict.

(04/064) Police Intervention to Protests Against New Rector Appointment to Boğaziçi University…

On April 6, 2021, 4 people are detained in Ankara for hanging banners to support protests against new rector appointed by the President to Boğaziçi University.

(04/065) Detained HDP Executives in Adıyaman…

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) provincial co-chair Mehmet Ali Alataş, provincial executive Bekir Gürbüz and central district co-chair Hasari Oğuz, who were detained after the police raid to HDP Adıyaman office on April 6, 2021 are released after statement procedures on the same day.

On April 6, 2021, 8 people are detained in house raids in Istanbul through an investigation against PKK. Names of detained people are unknown.

(04/067) Investigation Against Future Party Executive in Urfa…

It is learned that a criminal complaint was made against Mahmut Demir, Eyyubiye district chair of the Future Party, for his social media posts about AKP’s Urfa mayor; and that Mahmut Demir made his official statement through the investigation at Urfa Security Directorate on April 6, 2021.

(04/068) Proceedings for Social Media Posts…

The Ministry of Interior declared on April 6, 2021 that legal proceedings were initiated against 5,478 people while 261 people were detained and 11 people were arrested on the grounds of social media posts in March, 2021.

(04/069) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against journalist Melis Alphan, on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ for her social media post about Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır in 2015, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 32 on April 6, 2021.

The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for Melis Alphan on the charged offence. The court adjourned the trial to May 21, 2021.

(04/070) Union Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The final trial of the case against Abbas Şahin, former co-chair of Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen) Diyarbakır branch, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on April 6, 2021.

The court acquitted Abbas Şahin.

(04/071) Union Executive on Trial in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against Shipbuilding and Maritime Transportation, Warehouse and Storage Workers’ Union (Limter-İş) organising expert Deniz Bakır is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 27 on April 6, 2021.

Deniz Bakır joined the trial via sound and vision system from prison. After defence hearings the court decided to continue detention of Deniz Bakır and adjourned the trial to June 1, 2021. Deniz Bakır was detained on January 14, 2021 and was arrested by the court on January 17, 2021.

(04/072) The Case on Sürmi İnce’s Death in Hakkari…

The retrial of the case against specialised sergeant Ali Dağkıran, for Sürmi İnce’s (55) death due to gunfire of military members in Yüksekova district of Hakkari, is held at Yüksekova Heavy Penal Court on April 6, 2021. On March 6, 2020, Erzurum Regional Court has reversed the 3 years and 4 months’ sentence given by Yüksekova Heavy Penal Court.

4 police officers are heard as witnesses. The court rejected to initiate an investigation against these 4 police officers giving contradictory statements; to prepare an expert report on and applied inquiry at the crime scene, and to arrest specialised sergeant Ali Dağkıran. The court adjourned the trial to June 11, 2021.

On July 18, 2017, Sürmi İnce died due to gunfire shot by military members, while she was carrying food for her children in Büyükçiftlik town of Yüksekova.

(04/073) Helin Hasret Şen Case…

On September 24, 2020, Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 has ruled that the proceedings against police officer A. E., for death of Helin Hasret Şen, should end lack of permission to investigate the defendant police officer. Helin Hasret Şen, a 12-year-old child, had lost her life due to fire opened from an armoured police vehicle on October 12, 2015, during curfew in Sur district of Diyarbakır.

On April 6, 2021, Diyarbakır Governorate gave the permission for investigation of police officer A. E., which means that the case will be on trial again.

(04/074) Cases Against People Evacuated from Sur…

The trial of the case against Helin Yapıcı, one of those who were evacuated from the buildings they were stuck in during the curfew in Sur district of Diyarbakır during February and March, 2016; is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on April 6, 2021. The court sentenced Helin Yapıcı to life imprisonment on the charge of ‘disrupting unity and integrity of the state’ and to 10 years and 10 months on the charge of ‘attempt to intentional killing’.

Mardin Governorate made a declaration on April 6, 2021 and banned open-door and indoor meetings, demonstrations, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening tents and stands, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets and so on for 30 days as of April 6, 2021.

HDP’s Adıyaman Office is raided by the police on the grounds of warrant of Adıyaman Penal Court of Peace No 1 on April 6, 2021. It is learned that digital material at the office were seized after the search.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 6, 2021 that 95 news reports and articles published on https://artigercek.com websites are banned to access by several courts in Turkey.

(04/078) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On April 6, 2021, 13 people are detained in operations covering 13 cities through an Ankara based investigation and 15 people are detained in Kayseri.

(04/079) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 211 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,003 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on April 6, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 49,584.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 32,667 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 3,579,185 as of April 6, 2021.

On April 6, 2021, 2 health workers (veterinary physician Ferdi Alan in Çanakkae and pharmacy technician Savaş Küçükoğlu in Istanbul) lost their lives from Covid-19.
