(01/055) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 6, 2023 that, 2 MLKP militants died in an operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the north Syria on January 3, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 7, 2023 that, 6 HPG militants died in the clashes between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Şırnak on December 17-20, 2022.

(01/056) Asylum Seekers Died in Van…

On January 7, 2023, Van Bar Association Refugee and Immigration Commission announced that 2 people were killed and 6 people were injured, 2 of them seriously, as a result of fire opened on a van that was reportedly carrying refugees at a police checkpoint on the Özalp district road. Van Provincial Security Directorate made a statement and said “The vehicle that did not stop despite the warnings of our teams, entered the opposite direction at the application point and first crashed into the armoured vehicle and then the concrete barriers. No weapons were used during the incident”.

It is learned that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) mayor of Pınarbaşı district of Kastamonu was physically attacked by a person (F. Ş.) and was injured on January 7, 2023.

(01/058) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 6, 2023 that, the windows of the solitary ward of a prisoner named Rezzan Abdurrahman İbrahim, in Erzurum Dumlu Prison was covered with metal wire.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 6, 2023 that, Vahyettin Sarı, a prisoner who was transferred from Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison under coercion to Ankara Sincan High Security Prison No. 1 on December 31, 2022, was being kept in solitary cell and was not given hot water for a week.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 9, 2023 that, 2 prisoners (Rojda Eraz and Ayşe Yağcı) in Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison was subjected to disciplinary proceedings on the grounds of chanting the slogan “Jin, jiyan, azadî” (Women, life, freedom) on 25 November the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women; and were given the penalty of ban of visitors for 1 month as a result of disciplinary proceedings.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 8, 2023 that the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Van provincial executive lawyer Sedat Düşünmez was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police at the check point as he was going to the funeral ceremony in Yeşilova town on January 5, 2023, for musician Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) who lost his life in the armed attack on Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center in Paris, France on December 23, 2022. Sedat Düşünmez, reporting that he was forcibly taken out of the car, stated the following to the press: “They took me to the concrete block. They laid me face down on the floor and banged my head on the ground, rubbing my head on the ground, handcuffed me behind my back and kicked me in the stomach. Then they got me up and slammed my head against the facing concrete wall”. It is learned that Sedat Düşünmez made a criminal complaint regarding the torture and ill-treatment.

(01/060) Police and Gendarmerie Intervention to Funeral in Muş…

It is learned that 10 of 31 people who was detained by the gendarmerie intervening in those who gather for the funeral ceremony in Muş on January 5, 2023, for musician Mîr Perwer (Mehmet Şirin Aydın) who lost his life in the armed attack on Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Center in Paris, France on December 23, 2022, were released after statement procedures on January 7, 2023. It is learned that 20 people were still under custody. 1 person was released after statement procedures on January 5, 2023.

It is learned that writer Gökhan Yavuzel, a member of the International Writers Union (PEN), was detained at Istanbul Airport on January 8, 2023 on the grounds of a warrant.

(01/062) Detained Person in Şırnak…

It is learned that 1 person (Uğur Temel) was detained in the house raid in Setkar village of Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak on January 8, 2023. It is reported that Uğur Temel was taken to the District Gendarmerie Command. The reason for detention is unknown.

(01/063) Torture and Ill-Treatment Investigation Not Permitted in Adana…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 7, 2023, that Adana Governorate’s Office did not permit for investigation against police officers, following the criminal complaint made by those who were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police intervening in the march of the Furkan Foundation members in Adana on March 20, 2022, to Adana Public Prosecutor’s Office on the charges of “misconduct” and “injury”.

(01/064) Non-Prosecution of Torture and Ill-Treatment in Ankara…

It is learned from the news coverage of January 9, 2023, Ankara Batı Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution on December 14, 2022, on the criminal complaint made by 5 female journalists regarding the strip search torture they were subjected to at the entrance of Ankara Sincan Women’s Closed Prison on October 29, 2022.

It is learned that the news reports about a woman who was killed by the man she was married to in Kütahya, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/, https://halktv.com.tr/ and https://ilerihaber.org/ websites, are banned to access upon the demand of The Ministry of Family and Social Services, by Kütahya Penal Court of Peace on January 6, 2023.

(01/066) Ban of Events in Tunceli…

Tunceli Governorate’s Office made a declaration and banned all events such as press declarations, demonstrations, marches, open-door meetings, protests, sit-in protests, commemorations, opening stands, collecting petitions, concerts and festivals, hanging banners and posters, carrying torches and so on for 7 days as of January 7, 2023.
