(08/062) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned that 1 militant died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the rural areas of Nusaybin district of Mardin on August 5, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2021 that, 2 HPG militants died in an air operation of Turkish Armed Forces to Qandil area of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 24, 2021.

(08/063) Police Shooting a Car in Mardin…

It is learned that the police shot a car after a quarrel that took place at the control point in Kızıltepe district of Mardin on August 6, 2021; and detained 2 of 6 people in the car, 3 of which were children, on the grounds of ‘resisting police’.

Detained people stated the following: “The police officers cursed to the people including a woman, in the car passing by the control point. Then a police officer said ‘What are you looking at?’ to me while I was turning. I did not respond. They took our identity cards for general information check. The police officer who was cursing to the cars passing by, turned to my brother and asked for his identity card. And my brother told him that other police officers took it. He insisted and said ‘Where is your ID card?’, and my brother responded again. Then the police officer hit my brother’s hand. And I said that this was wrong, and there are children in the car. Then he cursed at me. The police officers said that they would search the car, and we asked the reason. As the police officer pulled me the car moved automatically. While I was about to pull the car over, another police officer fired his gun. The special task officers shot 6 or 7 times to our car. (…) Then 15 special task officers came around us, they took me and my brother off the car. They said ‘You are terrorists’. They cursed us. They forced me down to the ground and handcuffed me behind my back. At the police station they forced us to sign the testimonies they prepared.”

(08/064) Asylum Seekers Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Mardin…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 8, 2021 that, 2 asylum seekers (E. E. and N. H.) who was in a group coming from Syria to Turkey, were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of soldiers and they were pushed down from the 4-meters height of the border wall.

  1. E. stated the following to the press: “We walked for a while after passing the border. They fired to us, so we lay down when they came closer. At first, 3 or 4 persons kicked us with boots. Then they put us into a car, took to the station. At least 10 soldiers gathered around us, and they beat us for 3 hours, with boots, hosepipes, clubs, iron sticks. They were beating us every time they ask a question. I said ‘I am a Kurd’, they beat me, my friend said ‘I am an Arab’ and they beat him. I passed out two times. They woke me up by pouring water. I am injured at my arm, and my back. And then they pushed us down from the border wall which is 4 or 5 meters’ height.”

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2021 that, Ismail Tüzün, a prisoner in Antep H Type Prison is transferred to Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison, and Hasan Atalay is transferred to Osmaniye T Type Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2021 that, the prisoners on hunger strike in Antep L Type Prison were not given sugar, salt and lemon; and that the tap water is cut for the last two weeks in their wards.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2021 that, Ismet Özçelik, an ill prisoner in Denizli T Type Prison is not given his medication for 20 days.

(08/067) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on August 6, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(08/068) Police Intervention to Protests in Van and Diyarbakır…

The police have intervened the press declaration in Van to protest the racist attack in Hasanköy neighbourhood of Meram district of Konya which killed 7 members of Dedeoğulları family on July 30, 2021. 10 people have been detained ad 3 of them (Nurullah Pekbay, Dilovan Duru and Rojhat Duman) are arrested by the court on the grounds of ‘resisting police’ while 7 people are released on judicial control conditions on August 6, 2021.

4 people who were detained in Diyarbakır on August 2, 2021, for protesting the racist attack in Konya, are released after statement procedures at the police on August 6, 2021.

(08/069) Police Intervention to Women’s Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the groups after the press declaration in Kadıköy district of Istanbul to protests murders of women, and detained 1 person on the grounds of slogans chanted, on August 6, 2021.

(08/070) Detained Person in Istanbul…

Ismail Alaş, former chair of Alewi Unions of Switzerland, was detained at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport where he came from Switzerland, on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media; and he is released by the court on August 8, 2021.

(08/071) Detained People in Şırnak…

2 people who were detained in İdil district of Şırnak on August 6, 2021, are released after statement procedures on the same day.

(08/072) Arrested Person for ‘Insulting the President’ in Antalya…

It is learned that a person (Y. T.) was detained on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ and insulting Manavgat district mayor, during the firefighting works in Gündoğmuş district of Antalya on August 7, 2021; and this person is arrested by the court on the same day.

(08/073) Detained Person in Muğla…

1 person who has protested the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli, saying “Everywhere has burned down, where are the helicopters? Where are you? Shame on you! The government should resign!” in Milas district of Muğla is detained on August 6, 2021.

(08/074) Former HDP Co-Chair on Trial…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2021 that, Diyarbakır Regional Court reversed the verdict of Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 13 which has sentenced the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ to 1 year and 6 months; and decided on acquittal. Figen Yüksekdağ has been charged with ‘insulting the President’ in her defence declaration at Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office after being detained.

(08/075) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 6, 2021 that, an investigation was launched against PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers Rezan Sarıca, Ali Maden, Baran Doğan, Cengiz Yürekli, İnan Akmeşe, Mahmut Taşçı and Mehmet Selim Okçuoğlu. The indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against the lawyers is accepted by Istanbul Heavy Pena Court No 33. The indictment demands sentence for 7 lawyers on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(08/076) Prevention of Journalist in Muğla…

It is learned that Birgün newspaper’s reporter Sarya Toprak was prevented from filming Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum while he was talking to locals in the fire-hit Marmaris district of Muğla on August 8, 2021. It is learned that the police officers told her to turn off the camera first, and Minister Kurum said, “Even if you are a journalist, you cannot shoot a video here”. It is learned that Sarya Toprak was forced out the area by police officers as she refuses to close down her camera.

It is learned that the banners about the racist attack in Konya which killed 7 people, hung on HDP’s provincial office in Van and district office in İpekyolu, are removed on Van Public Prosecutor’s Office instruction on August 8, 2021.

(08/078) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On August 6, 2021, 46 people are detained in operations covering 25 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

On August 7, 2021, 13 people are detained in an alleged attempt to illegally flee to Greece.

(08/079) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 101 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 23,957 as of August 6, 2021.

The Ministry of Health declared that 112 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 25,100 as of August 7, 2021.

The Ministry of Health declared that 108 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 22,699 as of August 8, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 52,194 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,918,540 as of August 8, 2021.
