(10/044) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on October 6, 2022, at least 26 women and 2 children got killed by men in September 2022. It is also reported that at least 2 women were forced to sex work, 71 women were subjected to violence, 16 women were sexually harassed and 12 children were abused by men in September 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2022 that, 5 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on August 29, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 6, 2022 that, 2 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on September 30, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2022 that, prisoners were forced to mouth search during hospital transfers in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison and those who reject it were not referred to hospitals.

It is learned that the appeal made on October 6, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(10/048) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the protest in front of the Çırağan Palace, during the 15th Istanbul Apparel Conference on October 5, 2022, held by ETF Textile factory workers for their unpaid severance and bonus payments, and detained 21 people, including Yeni Demokrat newspaper reporter Mert Soydan, by using physical violence.

The trial of the closure case against the We Will Stop Femicide Platform Association is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 13 on October 5, 2022. The court rejected all intervention demands and adjourned the trial to January 11, 2023.

The final trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, on the grounds of violating personal rights of the President in a speech, is held at Ankara Civil Court of First Instance No. 37 on October 5, 2022. The court sentenced Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to pay the President 50,000 Turkish Liras for non-pecuniary damage.

The final trial of the case against 10 members and executives of the Republican People’s Party (CHP Istanbul provincial secretary Oğuz Kemal Yakar, CHP provincial deputy chair Mert Bahçetepe, CHP Beyoğlu district chair Gözde Fil, CHP Istanbul Youth Branch chair Cem Aydın, CHP Beyoğlu district executive Ali Asker Ekici, CHP Beşiktaş district deputy chair Cem Özçelik and party members Burak Aluçlu, Gökhan Akgül, Seçkin Aybar and Tuğba Güçtekin) upon the criminal complaint of President Erdoğan, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, former minister Egemen Bağış and the Constitutional Court member İrfan Fidan about the “SaBıKa Holding” leaflets of CHP, is held at Istanbul Kartal Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on October 6, 2022. The court acquitted 10 people.

The first trial of the case against Turgut Öker, the founding chair of the Confederation of European Alevi Unions (AABK), on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 23 on October 5, 2022. After defence hearings the court acquitted Turgut Öker.

(10/053) Journalist on Trial in Mardin…

The retrial of the case against Çetin Kurşun from Azadiya Welat newspaper which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Mardin Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on October 5, 2022. The court sentenced Çetin Kurşun to 8 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and to 5 years on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. The court also decided to issue a detention warrant for Çetin Kurşun. The local court has sentenced Çetin Kurşun to 3 years on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ but Antep Regional Court has overturned the verdict.

The trial of the case against journalist Ceren Sözeri, upon complaint of Serhat Albayrak, Turkuvaz Media Group Vice President of Executive Board, for the article titled “Who caused poll defeat of AKP”, is held at Istanbul Commercial Court of First Instance No. 2 on October 5, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to March 1, 2023.

The trial of the case against 34 people including journalist Sadiye Eser is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 6 on October 5, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for defendants on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 1, 2023.

The first trial of the case against journalist Hayri Tunç for social media posts, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on October 6, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Hayri Tunç on the charge of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to December 6, 2022.

It is learned that an armed attack was carried on to HDP’s office in Karlıova district of Bingöl on October 5, 2022. A person named T. B. was detained in connection with the attack, in which no one was killed or injured.

(10/058) Cancelled Theatre Play in Bursa…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2022 that the play named “Medea’ya Göre Ahlak” (Morality According to Medea) staged by Galata Perform, to be held on October 16, 2022 at Bursa Tayyare Cultural Center, was cancelled by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality on the grounds that it was “inconvenient”.

It is learned that the graduates’ day meeting to be held by Boğaziçi University Alumni Association (BÜMED) on October 9, 2022 was banned by the university rectorate on October 5, 2022.

(10/060) Administrative Fine for TV and Radio Channels…

It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2022 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) issued Halk TV channel (2 times), TELE 1 TV channel (2 times) and KRT channel (1 time) with administrative fines for publishing declarations of Sedat Peker. RTÜK also imposed an administrative fine on Kafa Radio channel, for the statements about the former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, İsmail Kahraman.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 6, 2022 that HDP’s provincial office in Diyarbakır was sealed by Bağlar Municipality on the grounds that “the building’s ground floor and 2nd floor was excessing the allowable and there is an outer door that is not in the project”.

It is learned that 1 person who was detained in Istanbul is arrested by the court on October 6, 2022.
