It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2021 that, Selami Keleş, a prisoner with eye disease in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison was not being taken to the prison infirmary or to a hospital for 5 months.

It is learned that the appeal made on October 5, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit him was not responded.
(10/045) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…
On October 5, 2021, 4 people are detained on the grounds of participating in the protest against Naci İnci on October 4, 2021, who was appointed as the rector of Boğaziçi University by the President. The police intervened the sit-in in front of the South Campus gate to protest detentions and detained 7 more people.

On October 5, 2021, the police raided waste collection depots in Ümraniye district of Istanbul and detained at least 200 people. It is learned that some of the cabins were demolished and carriers of the workers were seized.

On October 5, 2021, 8 people including Aziz Başboğa, city council member from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and İhsan Deniz, former Güroymak district co-chair of HDP are detained in house raids in several districts of Bitlis. It is learned that the lawyers who went to the Provincial Gendarmerie Command were not allowed to see the detainees.

On October 5, 2021, 12 people are detained in house raids in Silopi district of Şırnak.
The names of detained people learned so far are: Guman Çavlak, Celal Durak, Ayaz Kültür, Abdülcelil Konur, Mehmet Tan, Doğan Sekman, Züleyha Bayar, Veysi Çelik, Süleyman Acar, Şahin Sekman, Bişeng Acar.

24 people have been detained for the protests against land consolidation decision, in front of municipality building in Vezirköprü district of Samsun. 6 of them are arrested on September 30, 2021 and on following days. 18 people are released on judicial control conditions.

The trial of the case against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Ruken Demir, on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Izmir Heavy Penal Court No 19 on October 5, 2021.
After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to January 12, 2022.
Ruken Demir was detained on November 12, 2019 and was arrested by the court on November 16, 2019. Ruken Demir was released at the first trial held on March 5, 2020.

The first trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy chair Gökçe Gökçen, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on October 5, 2021.
The indictment demands sentence for Gökçe Gökçen, on the charges of ‘inciting hatred and hostility among public’, ‘insult’ and ‘slander’ by the booklet “Political wing of FETO in 21 questions” of the party.
After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 24, 2022.

The final trial of the case against Polat Balkan, former chair of Antalya Bar Association, on the charge of ‘praising offence and offender’ in his social media posts, is held at Antalya Penal Court of First Instance No 3 on October 5, 2021. The court acquitted Polat Balkan.

The final trial of the case against Sevgül Aydın, former central district co-chair of HDP and 2 other people, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and ‘violating the law on prevention of financing of terrorism’, is held at Osmaniye Heavy Penal Court No 2 on October 5, 2021. The court acquitted 3 people.

It is learned that the news reports about the company that demanded confiscation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s accounts and its owner, published on https://www.birgun.net (2 news reports), https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.diken.com.tr, https://odatv4.com and https://www.gazeteduvar.com.tr websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by İstanbul Penal Court of Peace No 3 on October 4, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2021 that, 4 proceedings demanding lift of impunity of 4 parliamentary members are submitted to Grand National Assembly.
Parliamentary members subjected to proceedings are:
- Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-chair and Diyarbakır MP Salihe Aydeniz
- HDP Group deputy and Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş
- HDP İstanbul MP Hüda Kaya
- HDP Diyarbakır MP Garo Paylan.

It is learned from the news coverage of October 5, 2021 that, 13 judges and prosecutors are dismissed on the grounds of ‘connection to an illegal organisation’, according to the clause A of the permanent Article 35 of state of emergency decree No 375 and Article 26 of the Law No 7145 on the Amendment of Some Laws and Decree Laws.
Dismissed judges and prosecutors are: Küçükçekmece district public prosecutor Hüseyin Mısırlı, Küçükçekmece district judge Cüneyt Azap, İzmir Tax Court member Kemal Babaoğlu, Erzurum public prosecutor Fatih Özalan, Bakırköy district public prosecutor Şeref Murat Erkılıç, The Court of Cassation Investigation Judge Mehmet Uçar, İstanbul Anadolu public prosecutor Rukiye Çakıcı, Kayseri public prosecutor Tuğba Yeter Aydın, Zonguldak public prosecutor Erdem Burak Bakırcı, İstanbul Anadolu public prosecutor Emrah Ergün, Sakarya public prosecutor Şerif Fidan, Elbistan district public prosecutor Ömer Aslan and Fethiye district public prosecutor Aykut Keser.

On October 5, 2021, 41 people are detained in operations covering 21 cities through an Istanbul based investigation; 81 people are detained in operations covering 32 cities through an Antep based investigation and 8 people are detained in Eskişehir.

The Ministry of Health declared that 228 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 29,802 as of October 5, 2021.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 65,563 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 7,258,402 as of October 5, 2021.
On October 5, 2021, two health workers (Mustafa Duran in Elazığ and Nagehan Özcan in Kocaeli) lost their lives due to Covid-19.
