(11/054) Male Violence Monitoring Report…
According to the ‘Male Violence Monitoring Report’ published by Bianet on 6 November 2024, at least 49 women and 8 children were killed by men across Turkey in October 2024. It is also stated in the report that men inflicted violence on at least 79 women, harassed 40 women, abused 58 children, and forced 49 women to sex work. Accordingly, men killed at least 327 women in the first 9 months of 2024.

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) announced on 6 November 2024 that at least 164 workers, including 11 women, 4 children, and 18 migrants/refugees, lost their lives at work in October 2024. Accordingly, the number of people who lost their lives in labor killings in the first 10 months of 2024 was at least 1540.

The Ministry of National Defence (MSB) announced on 5 November 2024 that 1 soldier (Mustafa Kemal Öz) died in an accident at the Underwater Defence Command in the Beykoz district of Istanbul.

It is learned from the news coverage of 6 November 2024 that, a child was detained by the police using physical violence and being handcuffed behind his back in Cizîra Belek park in the Cizre district of Şırnak. It is stated in the news reports that the police said ‘If he is a terrorist, we will shoot him’ to those who reacted to the incident.

It is learned from the news coverage of 6 November 2024 that, Gülistan Al, a prisoner in Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison was kept in a single room, her personal belongings were seized during searches and she was subjected to verbal violence by a soldier on guard when she went out for ventilation.

It is learned from the news coverage of 6 November 2024 that, 4 prisoners (Ferhat Tüfenci, Fikret Yiğit, Tahsin Özyıldız, Mazlum Bataray) in Ankara Sincan Prison have been on hunger strike for 54 days, demanding an end to right violations.
(11/060) Police Intervention in Protests against the Trustee Decisions…
On 5 November 2024, the police intervened in the protest in front of the municipality building in Batman against the decision to dismiss the co-mayors of Mardin, Batman, and the Halfeti district of Urfa and appoint trustees in their place, and detained 29 people using physical violence.
On 5 November 2024, the police used tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets against the protests staged for the same cause in Hilal, Karşıyaka, Petrolkent, Bağlar, Cudi, and Petrol neighborhoods of Batman. It is not known whether anyone was detained as a result of the intervention.
It is learned from the news coverage of 6 November 2024 that the Governorate of Batman initiated an administrative investigation on the allegations of torture and ill-treatment of detainees. The Governorate also announced that 67 people were detained for the protests in Batman.
On 5 November 2024, the police intervened in a march in Van for the same cause and detained 7 people. Detained people were released the same day after statement procedures at the police. Names of detained people are Cemal Sezgin, Zeynep Kaya, İlhan Günay, Haydarhan Aslan, İrfan Kaval, Serdar Çevik and Ümit Tayanır.
It is learned that on 5 November 2024, the police prevented the people who wanted to set up a ‘Democracy Tent’ in Van City Square for the same reason.
On November 5, 2024, the police intervened against the march of Women Stand Strong Together Platform members for the same cause in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul. It is learned that no one was detained during the intervention. Journalists were prevented by the police and were forced to leave the protest area.
(11/061) Journalists Detained in Batman for Following the Protests against the Trustee Decisions…
Jinnews reporter Pelşin Çetinkaya and Yeni Yaşam newspaper employee Veysi Aküren were detained by the police using physical violence while covering the protest in front of the municipality building in Batman on 5 November 2024, against the dismissal of co-mayors of Mardin, Batman and the Halfeti district of Urfa and appointment of trustees. It is reported that 2 journalists were subjected to torture and ill-treatment after being detained until they were taken to Batman Provincial Security Directorate. 2 journalists were released on the same day after statement procedures at the police.

It is learned from the news coverage of 6 November 2024 that, 9 people were detained in house raids in Urfa on the same date, for protests against the trustee decisions. Names of detained people are Burçin Satıcı, Aziz Çetintaş, Kerem Bilgen, Davut Çakmak, Yusuf Aslan, Mahmut Demir, Serhat Topkan, Yılmaz Birgül, Mizgin Çiftçi.

It is learned from the news coverage of 5 November 2024 that, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) provincial office in Iğdır was attacked by a person with a sharp weapon in his hand. It is reported that the person was detained for the attack without any casualties.
(11/064) Former MPs on Trial…
The trial of the case against former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Hüda Kaya, Serpil Kemalbay, Fatma Kurtulan, Pero Dündar and Garo Paylan, for the Kobanê protests held on 6-8 October 2014, continued on 5 November 2024 at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22. The court adjourned the hearing to 7 January 2025.
Hüda Kaya was arrested on 1 November 2023 and was released at the hearing of the case held on 25 June 2024.
(11/065) Actor on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against actor İlyas Salman, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ due to his words ‘I do not consider Erdoğan worthy of that seat’ in an interview, continued on 5 November 2024 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The court adjourned the hearing to 22 April 2025.

The trial of the case against Veli Saçılık, on the grounds of a post criticising the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) regarding the earthquakes that occurred on 6 February 2023, continued on 5 November 2024 at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 10. The indictment demands a sentence for Veli Saçılık on the charge of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’. After defense and witness statements, the court adjourned the trial to 28 December 2024.

The Governorate of Van announced on 5 November 2024 that demonstrations, outdoor and indoor meetings, press statements, sit-in protests and surveys, setting up/opening tents and stands, organizing petitions, distributing leaflets, brochures and flyers and similar events are banned for 3 days between 5 November 2024 and 7 November 2024.

It is learned from the news coverage of 5 November 2024 that, Kurdish content was removed from the official website of Batman Municipality after the co-mayor of Batman Municipality was dismissed and Batman Governor was appointed as a trustee.

On 5 November 2024, 8 people were detained in house raids in Istanbul for their social media posts on Fethullah Gülen’s death.
