(05/035) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet which was published on May 5, 2021, at least 17 women were killed by men in April 2021. It is also reported that 9 women were raped, 58 women were forced to sex work, 68 women were subjected to violence, 8 children were abused and 8 women were sexually harassed/abused by men in April, 2021.

(05/036) Person Subjected to Physical Violence of Municipal Police in Hatay…

It is learned that a person (Murat Coşkun) was subjected to physical violence of the municipal police officers in Dörtyol district of Hatay on May 5, 2021.

Murat Coşkun stated the following: “I was sitting in my shop with my wife and two children as I always do. The municipal police officers came and asked for my license, and I showed them. Then they said, ‘We will close your shop down’. I asked for a reason and they responded as ‘You are not from here; nobody wants you here. We will not let you earn your life in any case’. They cursed and insulted me, and they beat me in front of my wife and children. They cancelled my license unlawfully. They do not let me open my shop.”

It is learned from the news coverage of May 5, 2021 that, Devrim Ayık, a prisoner with Cronh disease in Eskişehir H Type Prison who is one of seriously ill prisoners according to the Human Rights Association (IHD) list, is not being treated.

It is learned that the appeal made on May 5, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

Ersin Özgül, Pir News Agency reporter who was detained in Izmir on May 5, 2021 is released after statement procedures on the same day.

(05/040) Police Intervention to Prayers in Mosques in Urfa…

The police intervened the members of Furkan Foundation, gathering in 2 mosques in Urfa for “itikaf” prayers (an Islamic practice of staying in a mosque for a certain number of days) and detained 10 people by using physical violence, on May 5, 2021.

(05/041) Investigation Against Parliamentary Member…

It is learned that on May 5, 2021, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Aykut Erdoğdu, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ for his social media post that he expressed “I will do whatever I can to make you brought to court for treason after you are overthrown by election”.

It is learned that 7 social media post about former lawyer of the President, shared by the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) Istanbul MP Ahmet Şık are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No 4 on April 28, 2021.

It is learned that Jinnews news agency website https://www.jinnews24.xyz and Mezopotamya news agency website https://www.mezopotamyaajansi34.com are banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 1 on May 3, 2021.

It is learned that Jinnews news agency website https://www.jinnews25.xyz is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 4 on May 3, 2021.

(05/043) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On May 5, 2021, 26 people are detained in operations covering 7 cities; and 29 people are detained through another investigation in Istanbul.

(05/044) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 356 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 2,414 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on May 5, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 26,476.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 41,883 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 4,955,594 as of May 5, 2021.
