(06/039) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 4, 2023 that 3 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Qandil area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on March 10, 2023.

(06/040) Detained People in Şırnak…

It is learned that 8 members of a family including 5 children were detained in house raids in Cizre district of Şırnak on June 6, 2023. The names of detained people and the reason for detention could not be learned.

(06/041) Detained People in Aydın…

It is learned that 4 people (P. K. A., C. A., H. B. and A. whose surname could not be learned) were detained through an investigation in Aydın on June 6, 2023; and that 2 people (Ş. A. and B. A.) were called for statement through the same investigation. It is reported that a confidentiality order was given for the investigation.

(06/042) Union Executives and Members on Trial in Ankara…

The trial of the case against 8 people, including the Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (SES) co-chair several central executive board members, is held at the Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on June 5, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for former co-chairs Gönül Erden and Bedriye Yorgun, current co-chair Selma Atabey, former central executive board members Belkıs Yurtsever and Fikret Çağlayan, former Ankara Branch executives Rona Temelli, Erdal Turan and Ramazan Taş, on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’. After defence hearings, the court decided to release Selma Atabey and adjourned the trial to October 2, 2023.

Gönül Erden was among those who were detained on May 25, 2021 through the investigation on members and executives of SES, and was released on June 1, 2021. She was detained once again on September 21, 2021 upon the prosecutor’s appeal and was arrested by the court, and then was released from prison on March 13, 2023. Selma Atabey was arrested at the trial of the case held on July 4, 2022.

(06/043) DBP Executive on Trial in Urfa…

The final trial of the case against the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Urfa provincial co-chair Vahit Akgün, through an investigation on the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on June 5, 2023. The court acquitted Vahit Akgün.

(06/044) Newspaper Owner on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Ramazan Ölçen, the grant holder of Kurdish newspaper Azadiya Welat which was closed down by a state of emergency decree is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on June 5, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to October 2, 2023.

(06/045) People on Trial in Adana…

The trial of the case against 24 members and executives of Binevş Culture and Arts Association including 4 arrestees is held at Adana Heavy Penal Court No. 11 on June 5, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 24 people on the charges of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’, ‘organising and leading unlawful assemblies’, ‘endangering traffic safety’, ‘purchasing or carrying or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition’. After defence hearings the court decided to release 4 people and adjourned the trial.

On June 27, 2022, 37 people were detained through an Adana based investigation and 4 of them were arrested by the court on July 7, 2022. The prosecutor’s office decided non-prosecution for 13 people and prepared an indictment against 24 people.

(06/046) Person on Trial for Social Media Posts in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 5, 2023 that, Diyarbakır Regional Court has rejected the objection to the acquittal of a person named S. Ç. who was on trial at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No. 12 for a social media post reading “Do not give credit to those who introduce himself as the president and ask for money”.

(06/047) Onur Yaser Can Case…

The final trial of the case against 4 police officers on the charge of ‘counterfeiting official documents’ and ‘damage of an official document’ and against 1 expert on the charge of ‘false statement’, regarding the death of Onur Yaser Can, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 41 on June 5, 2023. Onur Yaser Can was detained in Istanbul in 2010, and killed himself after he was subjected to torture and ill-treatment under custody. The court sentenced 4 police officers to 6 years each on the charge of ‘corrupting, destroying or damaging an official document’ and decided to acquit the expert.

(06/048) Investigation Against People for Participating in Protest in Muğla…

It is learned that Milas Public Prosecutor’s Office decided non-prosecution regarding the investigation on the charge of ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ of against 2 people [Turkish Workers Party (TİP) Muğla Provincial chair Volkan Çetin and Labour Party (EMEP) Muğla Provincial chair Nuri Alikoç] who were detained for participating in the protest against the removal of olive trees by an energy company in the İkizköy region of Milas district of Muğla on March 31, 2022; and against 3 people (Bengü İlke Çiçek, Eren Akmaz, Zekai Türkmenoğlu) who were then called to make statement through the investigation.

(06/049) Academician Not Allowed to Enter Turkey…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 6, 2023 that Indian citizen academician Mohan Ravichandran was not allowed to enter Turkey at Sabiha Gökçen Airport, on the grounds “security threat”. It is stated in the news reports that Mohan Ravichandran supported the protests against the rector appointed by the President at Boğaziçi University. Mohan Ravichandran stated the following to the press: “I landed at Sabiha Gökçen Airport last Saturday, but the officer on duty stated that my residence permit was cancelled on February 25. The ‘N-82’ code was applied to me, that is the code for people posing a security threat (…) I am not a Turkish citizen. That’s why I never said anything taking a political stance. Students were detained. I also wrote an e-mail to the rector and stated that a rector should stand by the students. There were various signature campaigns, I signed too. I attended the protests (…) These are academic and fundamental demands.”

(06/050) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 19 people were detained in operations covering 9 cities through an Izmir based investigation on June 6, 2023.
