According to “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on January 5, 2022, at least 34 women and 4 children got killed by men in December 2021. It is also reported that 7 women were raped, at least 130 women were forced to sex work, 61 women were subjected to violence, 37 children were abused by men in December 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 5, 2022 that, Mehmet Kurt, a prisoner in Kayseri T Type Prison No 1 was transferred to another prison under coercion.
It is learned from the news coverage of January 5, 2022 that, in Izmir Şakran Prison, personal belongings of prisoners are scattered around and broken during ward searches, prisoners are forced to change wards, 3 or 4 prisoners are kept in single wards and prisoners have to sleep on the floor, and the wards are quite dirty.

It is learned from the news coverage of January 5, 2022 that, lawyer Barkın Timtik from the People’s Law Office who is kept in Istanbul Silivri Prison is on hunger strike since January 1, 2022.

Mezopotamya News Agency executive editor Ferhat Çelik who was detained through an investigation of Gaziantep Public Prosecutor’s Office, in Istanbul on January 4, 2022 is released on January 5, 2022. Ferhat Çelik is detained once again through another investigation on January 5, 2022 and is released after statement procedures on the same day.

On January 5, 2022, 8 people are detained in house raids in Istanbul, Manisa and Mersin, through a Bitlis based investigation on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and ‘violation of the law against financing terrorism’. The names of detained people are unknown.
(01/033) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…
On September 15, 2020, Penal Department No 16 of the Court of Cassation has reversed the verdicts against 2 lawyers, the Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) chair Selçuk Kozağaçlı and the People’s Law Office (HHB) member Barkın Timtik. The court has ruled consolidation of the case against 2 lawyers with another case on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 18. The retrial of the case is held on January 5, 2022.
The court stated that the digital evidence is submitted to the court board on January 4, 2022 and will be sent to the Forensic Medicine Institution for investigation. The court decided to continue detention of 2 lawyers and adjourned the trial to March 23, 2021.

Siirt Governorate made a declaration on January 5, 2022 and announced 3 areas in Pervari, Eruh and Baykan districts as special military security zones until December 31, 2022.
Special military security zones: Yazlıca Mountain (Herekol) area, Yassıdağ (Ciraf) area and Tandır (Kalemis) area.

The Ministry of Health declared that 143 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 66,467 as of January 5, 2022.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 83,075 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 9,718,861 as of January 5, 2021.
It is learned that emergency medical service worker Yeliz Günay in Aydın lost her life due to Covid-19 on January 5, 2022.
