(02/046) Prisoner’s Release Adjourned by the Prison Administration and Observation Board Decision…

On February 5, 2026, it is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2026 that the release of Orhan Doru, Erkan Bayrak and Abdullah Topaloğlu, prisoners in Maraş Türkoğlu T Type Prison No 1, who have completed the execution of their prison sentences, has been adjourned by Prison Administration and Monitoring Board (CİGK). While Orhan Doru’s release was adjourned for 3 months, it is not known for how long the release of the other two prisoners was adjourned.

(02/047) Detained Journalists, Members and Executives of Political Parties, Associations, Unions in Operations Organized in 22…

On February 3, 2026, through an Istanbul based investigation, operations were conducted in 22 provinces (Istanbul, Antalya, Adıyaman, Urfa, Rize, Bursa, Van, Tekirdağ, Antep, Samsun, Tunceli, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Kocaeli, Yalova, Balıkesir, Denizli, Ankara, İzmir, Sakarya, Adana, Mersin) against 22 human rights defenders including Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Co-Chair Murat Çepni, DEM Party PM Member Emin Orhan, 2 human rights defenders (Mehmet Acettin and Tuğba Kahraman), 56 of 96 people, including 5 ETHA journalists (Nadire Gürbüz, Pınar Gayıp, Elif Bayburt, Müslüm Koyun and Züleyha Müldür), Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) Co-Chair Berfin Polat, Socialist Women’s Assemblies (SKM) Spokesperson Tanya Kara, LİMTER-İş Union President İleri Devrim Yurtsever, ecology activist Cemil Aksu, were referred to the criminal court of peace on February 5, 2026. 47 people including Murat Çepni, Tanya Kara, Berfin Polat, Cemil Aksu, Pınar Gayıp, Nadiye Gürbüz and Elif Bayburt were arrested. 9 people were released on judicial control conditions including signing a petition, a ban on leaving the country and house arrest. It is learned that 40 people are still under custody.

(02/048) Arrested Child in Izmir…

A.K. (16,k) who was detained on the grounds of hair braiding video, photo and song he shared on social media, is arrested by the criminal court of peace on February 5, 2026 on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’.

(02/049) Mayors and Other People on Trial in Istanbul

The trial of the case against 200 people including Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar and Avcılar Mayor Utku Caner Çaykara, 33 of whom are arrested, continued on February 5, 2026 at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 1. The court released 9 people including Zeydan Karalar on judicial control conditions with a ban on leaving the country and decided to continue detention of 24 people including 4 other mayors and adjourned the trial to February 9, 2026.

(01/050) Indictment Against Association Chairperson…

It is learned that on February 5, 2026, Ankara 74th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment prepared by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against Defne Güzel, Chairperson of May 17 Association, which is active in the field of LGBTI+ rights, on the grounds of a book and exhibition catalogue published on the association’s website and social media accounts.

The indictment demands Defne Güzel to be sentenced for violating the Law on Associations. The first hearing of the case will be held on May 12, 2026.

(02/051) Amedspor Player Referred to PFDK…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 6, 2026 that, Amedspor player Çekdar Orhan, who was referred to Professional Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) for showing his joy by braiding his hair after scoring a goal during the match between Amedspor and Adana Demirspor, was banned from 5 official matches on the grounds of ‘ideological propaganda’ and Amedspor was fined 600.000 Turkish Liras.

(02/052) Access Ban on Social Media Accounts and Internet Contents…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2026 that 3 X social media accounts of Mezopotamya News Agency in Turkish, Kurdish and English are banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order, upon the demand of BTK.

It is learned that a total of 6 news reports on https://www.evrensel.net/son-24-saat, https://www.birgun.net/ (2 news reports), https://bianet.org/, https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/ , https://www.gazetepencere.com/ websites about the renovation of Istanbul Galata Tower were banned to access on the grounds of national security and protection of public order, by the decision of Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No 6 on February 4, 206.
