(02/022) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the ‘Male Violence Monitoring Report’ published by Bianet on 6 February 2025, at least 28 women and 4 children were killed by men across Turkey in January 2025. It is also stated in the report that men inflicted violence on at least 39 women, harassed 11 women, abused 13 children, and forced 61 women to sex work.

(02/055) Labor Killings…

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) announced on 6 February 2025 that at least 177 workers, including 15 women, 5children, and 13 migrants/refugees, lost their lives at work in January 2025. Accordingly, the number of people who lost their lives in labor killings in the first 10 months of 2024 was at least 1540.

The Ministry of National Defense (MND) announced on 5 February 2024 that 1 soldier (Murat Kemal Yetişen) who was wounded in a clash during the “Claw-Lock” operation of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKRG) has died.

On February 6, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of February 6, 2025 that, the food given to prisoners in Diyarbakır Women’s Prison is not hygienic and the prices of the products sold in the prison canteen are increased twice a month.

(02/036) No Response to Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan…

It is learned that the appeal made on February 6, 2025 by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded by Bursa Public Prosecutor’s Office.

(02/037) Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor on Trial…

On February 5, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2025 that Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against Ekrem İmamoğlu, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, for his statement on Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor. The indictment demands a prison sentence of up to 7 years and 4 months and a political ban for Ekrem İmamoğlu on the charges of ‘targeting people fighting against terrorism’, ‘insult’ and ‘threat’.

(02/038) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Barış Pehlivan, upon the complaint of a Supreme Court of Appeals member due to an article he wrote, continued on February 5, 2025 at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 2. The indictment demands sentence for Barış Pehlivan on the charges of ‘slander’ and insult’. The court adjourned the hearing to July 8, 2025.

(02/039) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul

The trial of the case against journalist Furkan Karabay, upon the complaint of the President and his children due to his remarks in a program he attended, started on February 5, 2025 at Istanbul 56th Criminal Court of First Instance. The indictment demands sentence for Furkan Karabay on the charges of ‘insulting the President’, ‘insult’ and ‘slander’. The court decided to issue a writ of compulsory appearance for Furkan Karabay who did not attend the hearing and adjourned the trial to February 21, 2025.

(02/040) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The first trial of the case against JINNEWS reporter Melek Avcı for her social media posts started on February 6, 2025 at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 19. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the hearing to April 29, 2025. (02/041) Journalist and Other People on Trial in Tunceli…

The trial of the case against 15 people including Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Party Assembly member Hebun Aslan, provincial co-chair Esma Ataş, Pir News Agency reporter Nuray Atmaca, for taking halay during DEM Party’s primary election in Tunceli, is held at Tunceli Heavy Penal Court No 1 on February 5, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for 15 people on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court adjourned the trial to February 25, 2025.

The first trial of the case against Enes Boran, Şiyar Ataş, Aynur Can, Veli Akyol, for protesting trustee appointment to Tunceli Municipality, started on February 5, 2025 at Tunceli Penal Court of First Instance No 1. The indictment demands sentence for 4 people on the charge of ‘violating Law on Demonstrations and Marches No 2911’. The court adjourned the trial to April 16, 2025.

(02/043) Members of Parliament Against Whom Proceedings Are Prepared…

On February 5, 2025, it is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2025 that the proceedings against Ediz Ün, Independent Edirne MP Ediz Ün, demanding lifting of his parliamentary immunity, was sent to Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

(02/044) Detained People in “Clamp-36” Operations…

On 5 February 2024, the Ministry of Interior announced that 93 people were detained in 29 provinces (Adana, Afyonkarahisar, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Çanakkale, Çankırı, Çorum, Edirne, Erzurum, İstanbul, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale, Kırklareli, Kırşehir, Kocaeli, Konya, Kütahya, Manisa, Malatya, Muğla, Niğde, Osmaniye, Sakarya, Sivas, Şanlıurfa and Trabzon) during the “Kıskaç-37” operations on the allegations of ‘being an illegal organization member’, ‘making illegal organization propaganda’, ‘using ByLock’.

(02/045) Detained People in Izmir and Manisa

On February 6, 2025, 10 people, including people who worked in institutions closed down by the Decree Law (KHK), were detained in house raids in Izmir and Manisa.
