(02/044) Operations and Attacks…

On February 6, 2024, 2 people (E. Y. and P. B.) attacked a police station in front of Gate C of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul. It is learned that 2 people (E. Y. and P. B.) died on the spot and 1 civilian person (D. K.) died in hospital, 5 people including 3 police officers were wounded.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç announced that 34 people were detained as part of the investigation into the incident. In addition, Istanbul Criminal Peace Judgeship No. 1 imposed a broadcast ban on news reports on the attack.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2024, that Demet Resuloğlu, a prisoner in Izmir Aliağa Şakran Women’s Prison was forced to strip search during transfer to hospital.

(02/046) Prevention of Right to Health in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2024, that in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison, there has been no doctor in the infirmary for 3 months, referrals to hospitals and tests take a long time, and prisoners are forced to be examined by a doctor through cameras in the cabins placed in wards.

(02/047) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on February 6, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, to visit them was not responded to.

(02/048) Political Party Executive Detained in Urfa…

On February 6, 2024, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly member Kemal Çakmak was detained in a house raid in Bozova district of Urfa on the allegations of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. Kemal Çakmak was released the same day after statement procedures at the district gendarmerie station.

(02/049) City Council Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Ceylan Aslan, Peoples’ Democracy Party (HDP) Municipal Assembly member from Ergani district of Diyarbakır, on the grounds of peaceful meetings, marches and events she participated in, was held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on February 5, 2024. After defenses the court adjourned the trial to May 21, 2024.

(02/050) The Case of GÖÇİZ-DER…

The trial of the case against 23 members and executives of Migration Monitoring Association (GÖÇİZDER), including Bilal Yıldız, a social worker at HRFT Istanbul Office, continued on February 5, 2024 at the courtroom in Marmara (Silivri) Prison Campus. After the defenses, the court adjourned the hearing to February 9, 2024.

(02/051) Artist on Trial in Uşak…

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against actress Farah Zeynep Abdullah was held on February 2, 2024, after the Regional Court of Appeals reversed the judicial fine of 1300 TL imposed by Uşak Banaz Penal Court of First Instance on the grounds of her social media posts about Musa Orhan, a specialist sergeant on trial for alleged sexual assault of a child. The court sentenced Farah Zeynep Abdullah to 1740 TL judicial fine and deferred the announcement of the verdict on the charge of ‘insult’.

(02/052) Banned Events and Demonstrations…

Governorate of Malatya announced on February 5, 2024 that all open-door and closed-door actions and activities such as gatherings, marches, press statements, sit-ins, vehicle convoys, all kinds of welcoming, seeing off, open and closed meetings, hunger strikes, rallies, opening stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and banners, organizing petitions, etc. are banned for 3 days between February 5, 2024 and February 7, 2024.
