(12/045) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 1 soldier (Mehmet Duman) died in a clash during the “Claw-Lock” military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on December 5, 2022.

(12/046) Person Died by Police Fire in Izmir…

It is learned that the police officer (T. N.) who was detained regarding the death of a person named Bülent A. died as a result of the fire opened by the police on the grounds of “disobeying stop warning” in Çiğli district of Izmir on December 2, 2022; is arrested by the court on December 5, 2022.

(12/047) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 6, 2022 that, Güneş Akan, who was taken from Istanbul Bakırköy Women’s Prison to Elazığ T Type Prison to attend the trial of a case, was subjected to strip search at the entrance of the prison and was not given water and food for a long while. It is also stated in the news reports that, the letter of Güneş Akan about the torture and ill-treatment was censored, the fax letter to the Human Rights Association was not sent and a disciplinary proceeding was initiated on the grounds of rejecting search.

It is learned that the appeal made on December 6, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.

(12/049) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which was made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 5, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(12/050) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration of the Climate Justice Coalition, to protest the mining project of Cengiz Holding in the Ida Mountain, held on December 6, 2022 in front of the company building; and detained 7 people (journalist Hakan Tosun, Osman Akkuş, Sultan Torbacıoğlu, Kadir Gölcü, Aslı Kerem, Doğasu Dilek Akın and Deniz Kuzucular).

(12/051) Former MP on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) former MP Nursel Aydoğan is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on December 6, 2022. The indictment demands sentence for Nursel Aydoğan on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court rejected the demand of the lawyers to drop the case regarding the ECHR decision and adjourned the trial to June 1, 2023.

The final trial of the case against journalist Hayri Tunç, for his social media posts, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 2 on December 6, 2022. The court acquitted Hayri Tunç.

The indictment of Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office against Evrensel newspaper’s editor-in-chief Görkem Kınacı and grant holder Kürşat Yılmaz, over a news report is accepted by Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on March 7, 2023.

(12/054) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against journalist Hazal Kaya, upon the complaint of former Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak over a news report on Cumhuriyet newspaper, is held at Istanbul Civil Court of First Instance No. 8 on December 6, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to April 4, 2023.

(12/055) Suruç Massacre Case…

The trial of the case against fugitive defendants Deniz Büyükçelebi and İlhami Bali, regarding the bomb attack that killed 33 people in Suruç district of Urfa on July 20, 2015 is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No. 5 on December 5, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to March 23, 2023.

(12/056) Attack on CHP Office in Bursa…

It is learned that an attack was carried out on the Republican People’s Party (CHP) office in Gürsu district of Bursa on December 6, 2022, by unidentified person or persons. It is reported that the attack caused material damage.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2022 that, the painting competition on gender equality to be organized by the Education and Science Employees’ Union (Egitim-Sen) Bursa branch as part of the 8 March International Women’s Day was cancelled by Bursa Governorate’s Office.

(12/058) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that the news reports regarding an excavation work in Lüleburgaz district of Kırklareli, published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr, https://www.yenicaggazetesi.com.tr, https://artigercek.com websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Kırklareli Penal Court of Peace on December 5, 2022.
