(12/066) Operations and Attacks in Southeast…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that 2 HPG militants died on November 24, 2018 and 1 HPG militant died on November 29, 2018 in clashes between security forces and HPG militants in between Karaçalı and Radar Tepesi areas in Uludere district of Şırnak.

(12/067) Asylum Seekers Found Dead in Edirne…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that 1 person found dead in Adasarhanlı village of Meriç district of Edirne, near the Greek border; and it is learned from the investigation of the prosecutor’s office that the person was an asylum seeker who freeze to death while attempting to cross to Greece.

(12/068) Torture and Ill-Treatment…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that, 19 prisoners in Patnos L Type Prison were transferred under coercion to prisons in Gümüşhane, Bayburt, Erzurum and Van.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that, prisoners in Diyarbakır T Type Closed Prison No 1 were not taken to infirmary in case of need; and were referred to hospitals with delay or not referred at all; the heating system was not working; prisoners were not given hot water and blankets; and prisoners were asked to pay for translations in case of Kurdish book and magazine demands.

(12/069) Hunger Strike in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that 10 prisoners in Düzce T Type Closed Prison who went on a hunger strike to support Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair and People’s Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Leyla Güven’s hunger strike, were subjected to disciplinary proceedings.

(12/070) Gendarmerie Intervention to a Protest in Aydın…

It is learned that on December 5, 2018, the gendarmerie and police used anti-riot water cannon vehicles and pepper spray to intervene into the residents of Kızılcaköy village in İncirliova district of Aydın, who protest attempts of geothermal power plant construction at the village and the officials of the power company entering the village being protected by the gendarmerie. It is reported that nobody was detained due to intervention.

(12/071) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened into the press declaration of public labourers who had been dismissed by a state of emergency decree and have been struggling 757 days to regain their jobs, intended to be held in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on December 5, 2018 at 13.30 and 18.00.

It was reported that during police intervention against the press declaration which was planned to be held at 13.30 on December 5, 2018, 2 people (Mahmut Konuk and Nazan Bozkurt) and at 18.00 2 people (Nazan Bozkurt and Gülnaz Bozkurt) were detained.

Thus in total 4 people were detained due to press declaration intended to be held in Yüksel Street on December 5, 2018. It is learned that detainees were released the same day.

(12/072) Detained Workers in Ankara…

On December 5, 2018, The police intervened into workers of TOKİ construction who are picketing at Mamak district of Ankara, for not receiving their wages for a while; and detained 4 workers. It is learned that detained workers were released after being fined to 259 Turkish Liras each, on the grounds of violating ‘The Law of Misdemeanour’. The police have intervened the picket line twice before, and detained 7 people on December 2, 2018; 10 people on December 4, 2018.

(12/073) Detained HDP and DBP Members in Diyarbakır…

On December 5, 2018, 8 people including members and executives of HDP and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) are detained in house raids in Diyarbakır. The reason for detention is unknown. It is learned that detained people are taken to Diyarbakır Police Headquarters. The names of detainees are: HDP Bağlar district co-chair Necmettin Burakmak, Yenişehir district co-chair Vahap Günay, Kayapınar district co-chair Haluk Eyüpoğlı, DBP Bağlar district co-chair Ali Alkan, DBP executives Ramazan Üngür, HDP executives Osman Dön and Sait Demir.

(12/074) Detained HDP and DBP Members in Hakkari…

On December 5, 2018, 8 people including members and executives of HDP and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) are detained in house raids in Hakkari. The names of detainees are: HDP provincial co-chair Zeynep Kaya, DBP provincial co-chair Nuriye Aktaş, DBP Yüksekova district co-chair Nevzat Kaya and Şehriban Acar, Keskin Erol, Necip Coşkun and Nurettin Atsız.

(12/075) Arrested Person in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that, Cemal Yıldız (61) who was detained in house raid in Mezra neighbourhood of Erciş district of Van on November 21, 2018; is arrested by Erciş Penal Court of Peace. It is learned that Cemal Yıldız is arrested for “adding forms and emblems usable as propaganda for an illegal organisation” on the grave stone of Harun Yıldız, son of Cemal Yıldız who died as an HPG member on June 21, 2014 in Ceylanpınar. It is also reported that the cemetery was also raided and the grave stone of Harun Yıldız was taken of and seized.

Journalist Rojhat Doğru, who was detained in Istanbul is arrested on December 5, 2018 for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(12/077) Arrested Executive of the Revolutionary Party in Istanbul…

Benazir Coşkun, Revolutionary Party central executive board member and HDP Women’s Assembly member, who was detained at the police station where she went to give her official statement through an investigation on December 3, 2018, is arrested by the court on December 5, 2018.

(12/078) The Cases Against Academics Who Are the Signatories of the Petition “We will not be a party to this crime!”…

The separate cases against 2 academicians (Research Assistant T.Ç.E. from Bilgi University and Assoc. Professor Y.B. from Dicle University) for signing the petition “We will not be a party to this crime!” on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 30 for ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ are held on December 5, 2018. The court adjourned both trials to March 29, 2019.

(12/079) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 20 lawyers from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) and People’s Law Office, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 37, continued to be held on December 5, 2018. The court released Ahmet Mandacı on house confinement conditions; and decided to continue detention of Selçuk Kozağaçlı, Engin Gökoğlu, Behiç Aşçı, Aycan Çiçek and Aytaç Ünsal. The court adjourned the trial to March 18-21, 2019.

Lawyers from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) and People’s Law Office were detained on November 8, 2017 and were arrested on November 13, 2017. 17 lawyers were released by the court on September 14, 2018; however, upon the objection of the prosecutor’s office, 6 lawyers (Selçuk Kozağaçlı, Ahmet Mandacı, Aytaç Ünsal, Aycan Çiçek, Engin Gökoğlu and Behiç Aşçı) were arrested by the court on September 16 and 17, 2018.

(12/080) Journalists on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 4 people including editor Semiha Şahin and reporter Pınar Gayıp from Etkin News Agency, on Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 23 is held on December 5, 2018. The court decided to release Ferhat Harun Pehlivan and Gülsen İmre; and to continue detention for Semiha Şahin and Pınar Gayıp. The court adjourned the trial to January 30, 2019.

Semiha Şahin and Pınar Gayıp were detained on April 12, 2019 and were arrested on April 19, 2018.

(12/081) Journalists on Trial in Van…

The case against journalist Mehmet Dursun on Van Heavy Penal Court No 4 is held on December 5, 2018. The court released Mehmet Dursun on judicial control conditions and adjourned the trial to May 15, 2019.

Mehmet Dursun was arrested on April 7, 2018, on the grounds of phone conversations he made with news sources in 2014.

(12/082) Airport Construction Workers on Trial in Istanbul…

The case against 61 workers including 31 arrested, for protesting poor working conditions at the worksite of 3rd airport which is being constructed in Istanbul, started to be held on Gaziosmanpaşa Courthouse Penal Court of First Instance No 14 on December 5, 2018. The court released 30 workers on judicial control conditions and decided to continue detention for Serhat Bilici due to lack of official statement. The court adjourned the trial to March 20, 2019.

The police and gendarmerie have intervened into the workers protesting poor working conditions on September 15, 2018 and detained 543 people. 31 of workers were arrested on September 19, and October 4, 2018.

(12/083) Former HDP Co-chair on Trial…

The case against Selahattin Demirtaş, Istanbul MP and former co-chair of HDP, on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ on Bakırköy Penal Court of First Instance No 38 is held on December 5, 2018. Selahattin Demirtaş joined the trial via sound and vision system from Edirne F Type Prison. The court decided to send a writ to Mersin Penal Court of First Instance No 14 for consolidating the cases and adjourned the trial.

It is learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that Istanbul Penal Court of Peace No 8 issued a detention warrant for journalist Can Dündar and actor Mehmet Ali Alabora through Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation on Gezi Park protests.

It is also learned from the news coverage of December 5, 2018 that Veli Saçılık and academician Nuray Türkmen were called for giving official statement through Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office’s investigation on Gezi Park protests

(12/085) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On December 5, 2018, 16 people including military members on active duty are detained in operations covering 6 cities through a Kayseri based investigation; and 14 people are detained in Diyarbakır.

(12/086) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against 19 former police officers is held on Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 on December 5, 2018. The court sentenced 19 people to jail penalties from 1 year 6 months and 22 days to 7 years and 6 months for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against Şaban Işık, former member of The Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors, on Penal Department No 9 of the Supreme Court is held on December 5, 2018. The court sentenced the defendant to 10 years for ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

(12/087) Banned Theatre Play…

On December 5, 2018, the theatre play “Only a Dictator”, written by actor Barış Atay, who is also an MP of Workers Party of Turkey, is banned from being performed at Antalya Muratpaşa Cultural Center on December 6, 2018. Antalya Governorate banned the staging of the play based on instructions of the state of emergency.

(12/088) Blocked Websites…

Sendika62.org website is blocked by Information and Communication Technologies authority (BTK) on December 5, 2018. Sendika62.org was opened after access to sendika.org website was blocked by (BTK) previously. Thus, access to sendika.org is blocked by 62 times so far.

Nuceciwan6.com website is also blocked by BTK on December 5, 2018.
