Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) announced on 6 August 2024 that at least 144 workers, including 10 women, 12 children and 5 migrants/refugees, lost their lives at work in July 2024. Accordingly, the number of people who lost their lives in labor killings in the first 7 months of 2024 was at least 1022.

It is learned from the news coverage of 6 August 2024 that, 3 militants died in the clashes between Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in the Hakurk area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in April 2024.
(08/043) Armed Attack on an MP in Antep…
It is learned from the news coverage of 4 August 2024 that, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Antep MP Melih Meriç was subjected to an armed attack by Menderes Sarı, AKP mukhtar of Yolağzı village in the Kargamış district, during his speech at ‘We Protect Antep Pistachio’ rally in the Nizip district of Antep. It is reported that Menderes Sarı was detained and an investigation is initiated.

It is learned from the news coverage of 6 August 2024 that Şeyhmus Uçar, elected municipal council member from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), took the floor at the Adana Seyhan district municipal council meeting and said to Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin: ‘I represent the Nationalist Movement Party here. You should know that. You will pay attention to your speeches. Do not exceed our tolerance limits. If we host our hearths and friends from the Ülkü Ocakları here, you will have no place to stay in Seyhan Municipality.’
(08/045) Torture and Other Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of 6 August 2024 that rooms of some prisoners in Tekirdağ F Type Prison were searched by correction officers in the middle of the night and belongings of prisoners were scattered; and that Bayram Kaymaz, a prisoner in Tekirdağ F Type Prison, was interrupted when he started to speak Kurdish in a phone call with his mother, although the time limit was not expired.
Medine Kaymaz, the mother of Bayram Kaymaz, stated the following to the press about the violations in prison: “My son said ‘we are even prevented from reading books’. The wards are raided in the middle of the night and everything is scattered…Prisoners can call their families whenever the prison administration wants. Prisoners who speak Kurdish in prison are subjected to investigations…”.

It is learned that the appeal made on August 6, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.
(08/047) Party Executives and Others Detained in Osmaniye…
On August 6, 2024, 5 people including Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Osmaniye Central District Co-Chairs Sevgi Aydın and Faruk Kahraman were detained in house raids in Osmaniye, on the grounds of dancing halay to Kurdish music played at a wedding they had attended before and decorating wedding cars with yellow, red and green colored banner. The detainees whose names are known are as follows: Sevgi Aydın, Faruk Kahraman, and Hakan Kahraman.
(08/048) Kurdish Warning Signs Removed from Pedestrian Crossing in Diyarbakır…
It is learned from the news coverage of 5 August 2024 that, ‘Pêşî Peya’ (Pedestrian First) in Kurdish, which was rewritten by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality on pedestrian crossings in different parts of the city, was erased again by the Governorate on the grounds of the circular issued by the Ministry of Interior on 26 July 2024. It is also reported in the news that Diyarbakır Bar Association applied to Ankara Administrative Court No 10 for the cancellation of the circular issued by the Ministry of Interior.
