According to “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on April 5, 2022, at least 25 women and 3 children got killed by men in March 2022. It is also reported that 3 women were raped, at least 93 women were forced to sex work, 51 women were subjected to violence, 12 children were abused by men in March 2022.

The private security guards intervened the protest of Yasin Keskin, demanding reinstatement to his job at Çankaya Municipality, held in front of the municipality building on April 5, 2022; and forced him away from the building by using physical violence.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 5, 2022 that, the delegation, including the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Assembly Spokesperson Ayşe Acaran Başaran, Batman Municipality Co-Mayor Songül Korkmaz, who was replaced by a trustee, and HDP Provincial Co-Chair Hürriyet Kaytar, who came to Timok village of Kozluk district of Batman to investigate torture allegations were prevented from entering by the soldiers. It was reported that the reason for the prevention was the 7-day ban given by the Batman Governorship due to the military operations in the region.

The first trial of the case against 3 people including 2 members of Aydın LGBTI+ Solidarity (Hikmet Hazer, Nazlıcan Algaç, Diyar Adin), on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Aydın Penal Court of First Instance No 2 on April 5, 2022. The court acquitted 3 people.
(04/072) Rights Defenders on Trial in Muğla…
The first trial of the case on the charge of ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ and ‘insultign a public official’ against Füsun Ergün and Gülören Demir, who were forecibly moved away by the gendarmerie on 11 August 2021 from the protest against the lignite mine intended to be established in the Akbelen Forest in the Milas district of Muğla, is held at Aydın Penal Court of First Instance on April 5, 2022. Füsun Ergün attended the hearing. After defence hearings, the court adjourned the hearing to September 16, 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 5, 2022 that, Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against 22 lawyers including the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Co-Chair Bünyamin Şeker, Mersin Branch Co-Chairs İbrahim Kaya and Serap Angay, on the grounds of violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations and ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ as they held a press declaration about health condition Aysel Tuğluk, at Mersin Courthouse on 18 February 2022.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 5, 2022 that, Bakırköy Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against Evrensel newspaper’s writer Ender İmrek on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘provoking hatred and hostility among public’.
(04/075) “Diyarbakır KCK Main Case”…
The retrial of the case known as “Diyarbakır KCK Main Case” against 38 poeple including HDP Mardin MP Pero Dündar and HDP Van MP Tayyip Temel, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 5, 2022. The local court’s earlier verdict was reversed by the Court of Cassation.
The court issued a summon for absent defendants and adjourned the trial to September 29, 2022.

The trial of the case against 29 people, including HDP Tunceli MP Alican Önlü and former HDP MPs Besime Konca, Osman Baydemir, Ahmet Yıldırım, Nadir Yıldırım and Selma Irmak, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 2 on April 5, 2022. The prosecutor declared legal opinon on the case and demanded sentence for Nadir Yıldırım and Alican Önlü on the charge of ‘leading an illegal organisation’, for Osman Baydemir, Ahmet Yıldırım, Besime Konca, Nadir Yıldırım, Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir and Selma Irmak on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court adjourned the trial.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 5, 2022 that the final trial of the case against HDP İzmir provincial co-chair Berna Çelik on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on March 3, 2022. It is reported that the court acquitted Berna Çelik but the prosecutor appealed to the verdict.
(04/078) Helin Hasret Şen Case…
The trial of the case against police officer A. E., for death of Helin Hasret Şen, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 1 on April 5, 2022. Helin Hasret Şen, a 12-year-old child, had lost her life due to fire opened from an armoured police vehicle on October 12, 2015, during curfew in Sur district of Diyarbakır.
Following the defense of the defendant police officer and the statements of the Şen family’s lawyers, the court rejected the to arrest the police officer. It is learned that Helin Hasret Şen’s mother, Nazmiye Şen, and her lawyers, who reacted to this, were forced out by the guard police at the order of the court. The court adjourned the trial.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 5, 2022 that, the Constitutional Court has concluded on the application of Nasrullah Kuran, who was imposed a disciplinary punishment for going on a hunger strike in silivri Prison in 2017. It is learned that the court ruled that Nasrullah Kuran’s freedom of expression was violated and a compensation of 5,000 Turkish Liras should be paid to him for non-pecuniary damages.

The Ministry of Health declared that 37 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 12,213 as of April 5, 2022.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 98,234 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,919,591 as of April 5, 2022.
