It is learned from the news coverage of October 4, 2022 that, 24 political prisoners in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison started a three-day hunger strike to demand an end to right violations.
(10/035) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…
The police intervened in the press declaration in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on October 4, 2022 held by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Assembly to protest killing of Nagihan Akarsel, a member of the Jineology Research Center and editor for the Jineology magazine, who was subjected to an armed assault in Sulaymaniyah in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on October 3, 2022. The police detained 30 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day. It is also learned that the police prevented journalists from recording and forced them away from the area by physical violence.
The police intervened in the protest held in Diyarbakır for the same reason and detained 6 people including 2 journalists. Detained people were: Mezopotamya agency reporter Eylem Akdağ, journalist Azat Taşkın, The Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP) Diyarbakır chair Salih Sargın, Vedat Saçan, Fermander Kardeş and Pehlivan Jiyan Şurzan.

6 executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who were detained at the Provincial Security Directorate where they have been to make official statements on October 3, 2022 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on October 4, 2022. Detained people were: HDP Erzurum provincial co-chairs Muammer Duman and Türkan Sümbül, provincial executive Yüksel Kişi, HDP Karayazı district co-chair Çetin Demir, HDP Karaçoban district co-chairs Remziye Tosun and Emin Tosun.

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) central executive board member Ökkeş Kava who was detained in Van on October 3, 2022, is released by the court on judicial control conditions on October 4, 2022.
(10/038) Former DBP Co-Chair, Journalist and Other People on Trial in Batman…
The trial of the case against 28 people including DBP’s former co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and İdris Yayla, the grant holder of Jiyan News, is held at Batman Penal Court of First Instance No. 1 on October 4, 2022. The case was opened for the press declaration held in 2016 to protest trustee appointments to municipalities. The court adjourned the trial to January 12, 2023.

The final trial of the case against Belgin Diken, HDP co-mayor of Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır who was suspended and replaced by a trustee, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 9 on October 4, 2022. The court sentenced Belgin Diken to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ and decided to continue judicial control conditions for her.
Belgin Diken was detained on March 23, 2020 and was released on house confinement on March 24, 2020. Ministry of Interior has appointed a trustee to Yenişehir district on November 13, 2019.

The trial against Emine Şenyaşar, on the grounds of insulting the Interior Minister in her statements at the “Justice Watch” protests that she holds in front of the Urfa Courthouse, is held at Urfa Penal Court of First Instance No. 2 on October 4, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to February 17, 2023. On June 14, 2018, Justice and Development Party Urfa MP candidate İbrahim Halil Yıldız and his personal guards had a quarrel with shopkeepers in Suruç district of Urfa which resulted in death of Emine Şenyaşar’s husband Hacı Esved Şenyaşar and her sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.

The trial of the case against 26 people who were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held to draw attention to housing problems, in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on February 28, 2022; is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 55 on October 5, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to December 6, 2022. Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office made a non-prosecution decision for the investigation about physical violence against the detainees.

The trial of the case against 10 people who have been detained by the police intervening the commemoration in Izmir on July 20, 2021, for those who lost their lives in Suruç Massacre 6 years ago, is held at Izmir Karşıyaka Penal Court of First Instance No. 10 on October 4, 2022. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to January 10, 2023.

The final trial of the case against 11 people who have been detained by the police intervening in the 1 May celebration held in Çiğli district of Izmir in 2021, is held at Izmir Karşıyaka Penal Court of First Instance No. 7 on October 4, 2022. The court acquitted 11 people.
