(07/035) Male Violence Monitoring Report…
According to the “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on July 4, 2023, at least 25 women were killed by men in June 2023. It is also reported that at least 62 women were subjected to violence, 7 women were harassed, 17 children were abused, 41 women were forced to sex work by men in June 2023. Thus, in the first 6 months of 2023, men killed 153 women and 13 children, harassed 27 women, abused 64 children, committed violence against 357 women, raped 6 women and forced 173 women to sex work.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2023 that, 1 village guard (Kaya Temel) died who had a heart attack during the military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 23, 2023.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2023 that 1 militant died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 28, 2023.
It is learned from the news coverage of July 5, 2023 that, 2 militants died in the clashes between the Turkish Armed Forces and HPG militants in Qandil area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government in March 2023 and 1 militant died in clashes in May, 2023.
(07/037) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…
It is learned that the appeal made on July 4, 2023 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, in order to visit him was not responded.
(07/038) Ban of Pride Week Events…
Antalya Governorate’s Office made a statement on July 4, 2023 and banned all events such as marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protests, opening stands and tents, picnic and so on as part of Antalya Pride Week on July 3-9, 2023, for 6 days as of July 4, 2023.
(07/039) Kobanê Case…
The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 18 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on July 3-5, 2023. The court rejected to release arrested politicians, to lift the judicial control on the others including Sırrı Süreyya Önder who was elected as Istanbul deputy of the Greens and Left Future Party, to hear Efkan Ala and Ahmet Davutoğlu as witnesses and adjourned the trial to August 1, 2023.
(07/040) Journalists on Trial in Ankara…
The trial of the case against 11 journalists is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 4 on July 5, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for the journalists on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation’, on the grounds of 149 news reports published by Jinnews and Mezopotamya news agencies. A secret witness was heard at the trial. The court rejected to return the digital material of journalists and to lift judicial control conditions on journalists and adjourned the trial to October 26, 2023.
11 journalists were detained on October 25, 2022 and 9 of them (Mezopotamya News Agency executive editor Diren Yurtsever, Mezopotamya News Agency reporters Berivan Altan, Deniz Nazlım, Selman Güzelyüz, Hakan Yalçın, Ceylan Şahinli and Emrullah Acar, and Jinnews reporters Habibe Eren, Öznur Değer) were arrested by the court on October 29, 2022. 2 people (Zemo Ağgöz and Mehmet Günhan) were released on judicial control conditions. Arrested 9 journalists were released from prison at the first trial held on May 16, 2023.
(07/041) Investigation Against Journalist in Van…
It is learned that an investigation was launched by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on the grounds of “publicly disseminating misleading information” on the grounds of the news reports about Serhat News Editor-in-Chief Sıddık Güler about the allegation of physical violence at the Van Culture and Tourism Provincial Directorate and that he made his official statement on July 4, 2023.
(07/042) Lawyers on Trial in Istanbul…
The trial of the case against lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan (Rezan Sarıca, Ali Maden, Baran Doğan, Cengiz Yürekli, İnan Akmeşe, Mahmut Taşçı and Mehmet Selim Okçuoğlu) is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 33 on July 4, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for 7 lawyers on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court acquitted 7 lawyers.
(07/043) Suruç Massacre Case…
The trial of the case against Deniz Büyükçelebi and İlhami Bali, the fugitive defendants of the case on the bombing attack which killed 33 people in Suruç district of Urfa on July 20, 2015, is held at Urfa Heavy Penal Court No 5 on July 4, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to December 5, 2023.
