(02/024) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2025 that 21 prisoners in different prisons in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) Penal and Execution Institutions Campus were transferred to other prisons against their will.
The names of the transferred prisoners and the prisons they were transferred to are as follows: Doğan Karataştan, Fikret Akar, Ahmet Arslan, Abdülkadir Altunlu to Tekirdağ Çorlu Y Type Prison; Meliha Aktaş, Şura Başer to Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison; Busenur Öztürk to Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison; Aslıhan Diş to Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison No 1; Nesimi Özcan, Mahir Doğan to Kocaeli Kandıra F Type Prison No 2; Deniz Özyılmaz to Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2; Umut Garan, Özgür Karakaya, İlyas Argun to Adana Kırıklar F Type Prison No 1; Hüseyin Kütük, Can Kaba, Ali Hasan Akgül to Ankara Sincan Y Type Prison No 1; Ali Aracı Anıl Mustafa Kesen, Emircan Yazı to Ankara Sincan Y Type Prison No 1; Tolga Aydın to Ankara Sincan F Type Prison No 2.
(02/025) Detained People in Izmir…
On February 4, 2025, 9 people are detained in house raids through an investigation by Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office on the allegations of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media. The names of detained people could not be learned.
(02/026) Journalist on Trial
The final trial of the case against journalist Merdan Yanardağ, on the grounds of his social media posts on the allegations of assassination of former Republican People’s Party chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 35 on February 4, 2025. The indictment demands sentence for Merdan Yanardağ on the charge of ‘publicly spreading misleading information’. The court acquitted Merdan Yanardağ.
(02/027) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul
The indictment of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Ahmet Güneş was accepted by Istanbul 25th High Criminal Court on February 4, 2025. The court also ruled for the release of Ahmet Güneş.
The indictment demands Ahmet Güneş to be sentenced for ‘being an illegal organization member’.
The first hearing of the case will be held on May 8, 2025.
Ahmet Güneş was detained on January 17, 2025 and was arrested by the criminal court of peace on January 24, 2025.
(02/028) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…
The indictment prepared by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Eylem Babayiğit was accepted by Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 22 on February 4, 2025.
The indictment demands sentence for Eylem Babayiğit on the charge of ‘being an illegal organization member’.
The first hearing of the case will be held on March 19, 2025.
Eylem Babayiğit was detained on January 22, 2025 and was arrested by the criminal court of peace on January 24, 2025.

The final hearing of the retrial of the case against lawyer Nehir Bilece, which was held at Izmir 2nd Assize Court upon the Constitutional Court’s ruling that her right to a fair trial was violated, was held on February 5, 2025. The court acquitted The court acquitted Nehir Bilece.

It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt, on the charges of ‘insulting the President’ and ‘threatening’, for the speech he made at the ceremony where he joined CHP.
(02/031) Discriminatory and Phobic Statement of MP…
On February 5, 2025, it is learned from news coverage of February 5, 2025 that Hüseyin Yayman, Justice and Development Party (AKP) Hatay MP and chair of the Digital Media Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, used discriminatory and phobic expressions in an interview. Hüseyin Yayman stated the following: “We will put an end to desexualization, LGBT propaganda on social media, the theft of the future of our youth, and the use of certain values on social media that are incompatible with the local and national values, customs and traditions of Turkish society (…) Because this issue has become a matter of national security.”
