(02/071) Operations and Attacks…

On February 4, 2021, 1 soldier (Süleyman Demirel) died in an explosion in El-Bab region of Syria.

(02/072) Attack to a Journalist in Istanbul…

Osman Güdü, producer and host of ‘City and Life’ of KRT television channel is attacked by an anonymous person in Kartal district of Istanbul on February 4, 2021. It is learned that Osman Güdü was injured at the head and admitted to a hospital.

(02/073) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2021 that in Mardin E Type Prison, water cuts are too often and the food given to prisoners is non-hygienic.

(02/074) Police Interventions to Protests in Samsun, Bursa, Çanakkale and Istanbul…

The police intervened the demonstration held on February 4, 2021, in Samsun to protest the new rector appointed by the President and the arrest of 2 students on January 30, 2021. 19 people including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member Seçkin Kır, HDP Samsun provincial co-chair Fatma Şençelik, Socialist Refoundation Party (SYKP) Samsun provincial co-chair İlhan Cüre, SYKP member Kürşat Aslan, Community Houses Educational Secretary Hüseyin Aksoy, Community Houses Regional Representative Kadir İlik.

The police intervened the protest for the same cause held on February 4, 2021 in Bursa, and detained 17 people whose names are unknown.

The police intervened the public forum held for the same cause on February 4, 2021 in Çanakkale and detained 9 people including Çanakkale Medial Chamber chair Güleda Erensoy.

On February 4, 2021, 5 people (Y. A. K., N. E, M. C. D., Ö. Ş., A. K.) are detained on the grounds of participating in the protest in Kadıköy district of Istanbul.

23 people who were detained for participating in protests in Istanbul are referred to the court on February 4, 2021. 2 people (Anıl Akyüz and Şilan Delipalta) are arrested, 11 people are released on house confinement while 10 people are released on judicial control conditions. It is learned that the police intervened the group protesting the arrest order, including parliamentary members and lawyers in the courthouse.

It is learned that the police raided a house in Bahçelievler district of Istanbul on February 4, 2021, on the grounds of a banner on the window reading “Boğaziçi is under blockade, we will not look down”; and the police took down a statement after removing the banner.

The Ministry of Interior announced that, as of February 4, 2021, 528 people were detained in 38 cities, 2 of them are arrested, 498 of them are released provided that 108 of them will be on judicial control conditions while 28 people are still under custody.

(02/075) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police used pepper spray and rubber bullets to intervene the group including parliamentary members who march from HDP’s Kadıköy district office to participate in the press announcement of the United Struggle Forces in Kadıköy district of Istanbul on February 4, 2021.

It is learned that the police used physical violence against journalists and detained Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Rojin Altay and Özgür Gelecek reporter Taylan Öztaş. 65 people including Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, Revolutionary Party chair Elif Torun Öneren and BEKSAV co-chair Ahmet Uçar are detained in police interventions all day.

It is learned that HDP MP’s Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Nuran İmir, Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir, Kemal Bülbül, Dilşat Canbaz and Musa Piroğlu were subjected to police violence, and that the police attempted to detained Nuran İmir and put her in the detention car using physical violence.

It is reported that 1 person was injured and was taken to hospital.

The names of detained people learned so far are: Rojin Altay, Taylan Öztaş, Şahin Tümüklü, Elif Torun Öneren, Burcugül Çubuk, Ümmühan Özdemir, Selfinaz Göçmez, Bedran Çoğaltay, Ahmet Uçar, Ezgi Yergin, Ekinsu Aktaş, Süleyman Çakmak, Sena Şat, Rojhat Demirdöken, Kerim Satış, Hıdır Devrim, Seher Dursun, Ali Ekber Derman, Eren Kaya, Cevdet Konak, Havin Özcan, Hıdır Devrim, Abdülkadir Satış, Besra İşsever, Eylem Saruca, Zilan Korkmaz, Aysel Özbeyli, Volkan Atmaca, Metin Özken, Rahime Karvar, Emrah Tuncer, Ali Ekber Erarslan.

(02/076) Police Prevention to Protest About Hunger Strikes in Prison…

The police prevented the press declaration of HDP in Tunceli on February 4, 2021; which was held to draw attention to indefinite hunger strikes that started on November 27, 2020 in prisons to demand an end to isolation of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.

(02/077) CHP Chair on Trial…

The final trial of the case against Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in a speech, is held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 7 on February 4, 2021. The court ruled a 100,000 Turkish Liras of compensation should be paid by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for non-pecuniary damages.

(02/078) HDP MP and Former Parliamentary Members on Trial…

The trial of the case against HDP Diyarbakır MP İmam Taşçıer and former parliamentary members İdris Baluken and Çağlar Demirel, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in a speech, is held at Diyarbakır Penal Court of First Instance No 12 on February 4, 2021. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to June 11, 2021.

(02/079) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Ramazan Akoğul, reporter of Dicle News Agency which was closed down by a state of emergency decree, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 4 on February 4, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Ramazan Akoğul on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to May 25, 2021.

(02/080) Medeni Yıldırım Case…

The trial of the case against Adem Çiftçi, a soldier on compulsory military service, for death of Medeni Yıldırım in Lice district of Diyarbakır on June 28, 2018, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 7 on February 4, 2021. Medeni Yıldırım was killed with a shot fired from military station during a march to protest the construction of a high security military station in Kalecik village of Lice. The indictment demands jail penalty up to 18 years for Adem Çiftçi for ‘killing with an eventual intent under unjust provocation’.

It is learned that a crime scene investigation was carried out without informing lawyers of Yıldırım family. The court adjourned the trial to May 25, 2021.

(02/081) Rejection of Parliamentary Questions…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2021 that 162 parliamentary questions submitted by HDP MP’s, in relation to the non-applied decision of the Grand Chamber of ECHR for Selahattin Demirtaş, former HDP co-chair, addressing Vice President Fuat Oktay, the Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, are returned on the grounds of ‘discordance to the legislation’.

It is learned that, the news report on the chair of July 15 Justice Organisation who was called to give official statement for his declarations, which was published on https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr website is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Artvin Penal Court of Peace on February 4, 2021.

 (02/083) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On February 4, 2021, 3 people are detained in alleged attempt to illegally cross to abroad in Edirne, and 2 people are detained on a warrant in Ankara.

(02/084) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 113 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 627 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on February 4, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 case is 7,909.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 26,467 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 2,508,988 as of February 5, 2021.

It is learned that doctor Mehmet Ertane in Adana lost his life from Covid-19 on February 4, 2021.
