(08/038) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Hakkari…
It is learned from the news coverage of August 4, 2022, that a person named Ali Rıza Fırat, who was taking his animals to the highland for grazing in Bilindbasan (Güldalı) village of Yüksekova district of Hakkari, was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment by the soldiers.
Ali Rıza Fırat stated the following to the press: “We were beaten by the soldiers because we took the sheep to the Qifarok plateau. The soldiers said we can graze our sheep only in certain places. We asked the soldiers for a few days to change the plateau of our sheep. They did not allow this and beat us. They threw away the searchlights, medicines and food we used. Because we objected to this situation, they slapped us and hit me in the chest with a gunstock.”
(08/039) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…
On 3 August 2022, the camera footage of the prisoner named Emir Karakurum, held in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison, was subjected to torture and other ill-treatment by the correction officers in front of the cell where he was held and in the infirmary he was taken to on March 10, 2022.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 4, 2022 that, a relative of a prisoner in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison was not accepted in prison for visit, as they rejected to take off socks at the entrance of prison.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 4, 2022 that, radios and books of prisoners in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison were confiscated.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 4, 2022 that, the number of books per prisoner in Muğla Bodrum S Type Prison is limited to 5, and the contact visits are limited to 45 minutes although the duration should be one and half an hour.
It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2022 that, in Ankara Sincan Prison the food given to prisoners is inadequate, the prisoners were not given all the food they requested from the prison commissary, the prisoners were not given the books sent by their families, and the prisoners registered in higher education institutions were not able to benefit from formal and non-formal education opportunities.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 4, 2022 that, the Constitutional Court has decided on July 4, 2022 on the individual appeal of 10 people who have been imposed an administrative fine of 392 Turkish Liras, on the grounds of violating the ban of the Van Governorate’s Office on events, as they have distributed leaflets to call people to the congress of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Çaldıran district of Van on February 18, 2022. The Constitutional Court ruled that the right to assembly and demonstrations, which is guaranteed in Article 34 of the Constitution, was violated and that the decision should be sent to the Çaldıran Penal Court of Peace to lift the consequences of the violation.
