(08/011) Operations and Attacks in the Southeast…
Governorate of Hakkari and Kars announced on 4 August 2015 that several regions in the provinces were decided to be military security zones for 15 days starting from 5 August 2015. Entrance of civilians to the military security zones was also banned.
The number of recent military security zones reached 40 regions in 7 provinces. The military security zones are in following provinces: Kilis (execution of the decision concluded), Şırnak, Tunceli, Ağrı, Siirt, Kars and Hakkâri.
Huzur Police Station in Kayapınar district of Diyarbakır was thrown a hand-made bomb on 4 August 2015. One police officer heavily wounded during the attack.
3 soldiers who were on charge at Varto Gendarmerie Command were opened fire on 4 August 2015 while walking on the street in Muş. The soldiers were wounded and hospitalised.
Armoured Unit Brigade in Silopi district of Şırnak was thrown a hand-made bomb on 4 August 2015. One soldier died and one soldier was wounded during the attack.

On 4 August 2015, the police intervened the crowd who entrenched the roads in Cizre district of Şırnak to protest in the recent operations. The police used real bullets and Beşir Eğitmiş (54) was wounded.
(08/013) Torture and Ill-treatment in Custody in İstanbul…
Cenk Orgun, Erkan Altaytaş and Mesut Koçak organised a press conference on 4 August 2015 in the premises of Human Rights Association İstanbul branch and announced that they were beaten by the police on 30 July 2015 during road control in Sarıgazi district of İstanbul.
The vehicle of the beaten persons was registered to Van province and the police alleged that the vehicle was stopped for a bomb warning. The persons stressed that they were kept beaten for minutes and then taken to Sancaktepe Security Directorate. They were forced there to sign testimonies prepared by the police.

Ferhat Encü was detained on 3 August 2015 in Silopi district of Şırnak while riding motorcycle on the grounds of not having a driving licence. He was taken to Silopi Security Directorate and allegedly beaten there.
(08/015) Persons Beaten and Threaten by the Police in Ankara…
According to the news appeared in the press, police officer Ahmet Gürsey beat Mustafa Ülsün on 3 August 2015 in Demetevler quarter of Yenimahalle district in Ankara. The police officer previously had a dispute with Emre Ülsün, the son of Mustafa Ülsün, for feeding pigeons. Ahmet Gürsey reportedly beat Mustafa Ülsün after having another dispute for the same reason.
Ahmet Gürsey started to beat Mustafa Ülsün with the butt of his weapon when Mustafa Ülsün left his house in the morning for going work. One of the eyes of Mustafa Ülsün lost sight and was taken out with an operation in the hospital.
The police officer also beat Emre Ülsün when he tried to stop him and Emre Ülsün fainted due to beatings. After the incident, the police officer threatened another neighbour Yılmaz Yıldırım for trying to intervene from his balcony. The police officer allegedly called Yılmaz Yıldırım “why are you sticking your nose in? I know who you are. You are from Haymana, you support PKK and you are a terrorist”.

According to the news appeared in the press on 5 August 2015, a drunken person was beaten by the police when s/he asked address to the police officers in Mamak district of Ankara. One of the legs of the beaten person was reportedly broken.

H.Ö. (20) incarcerated in Burhaniye (Balıkesir) T-type Prison for being convicted in a theft case allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell with sheet.
(08/018) Protest Intervened in Muş…
The police intervened the demonstration staged on 4 August 2015 in Bulanık district of Muş to protest in the recent cross-border operations and detentions. The police dispersed the crowd by using tear gas and water cannons, at least 5 persons were reportedly wounded during the intervention.

The police conducted house raids on 5 August 2015 in Siverek district of Şanlıurfa in connection with a “Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H) Investigation” and detained 13 persons.

Unidentified persons organised an armed attack on 4 August 2015 against the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) premises in Şehitkamil district of Gaziantep. The attack caused material damage.
