(11/049) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on November 4, 2022, at least 32 women and 4 children got killed by men in October 2022. It is also reported that at least 14 women were forced to sex work, 70 women were subjected to violence, 13 women were harassed and 18 children were abused by men in October 2022.

(11/050) Operations and Attacks…

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers (Halil Yıldız and Fırat Güner) died in a mine explosion during the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on November 5, 2022.

The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers (Mustafa Öztürk and İsmail Esmer) died and 2 soldiers were wounded in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on November 6, 2022.

(11/051) Asylum Seekers Died in Sivas…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 7, 2022 that, 2 asylum seekers died and 20 asylum seekers were wounded in an overturned vehicle in Gürün district of Sivas.

(11/052) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Van…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 5, 2022 that, 2 people (Necip Demir and Fatma Demir) were subjected to torture and ill-treatment in a house raided by the gendarmerie in Yukarı Koçkıran neighbourhood of Özalp district of Van on November 2, 2022. It is learned that 1 person (Fatma Demir) was admitted to hospital after being subjected to torture and ill-treatment.

Fatma Demir stated the following to the press: “We were sleeping. We woke up to a loud noise and before I realized what was happening, they broke into my bedroom. We were still in shock, trying to understand what had happened. At that time, they pulled my husband out of bed and started to beat me. My 1-year-old daughter was sleeping next to us and she woke up screaming. I said, ‘Hold on, my child is afraid. She is ill, she might suffer a convulsion. Let me call someone to pick my daughter’ but while I was talking, they started to beat and kick me as well. ‘I will kill you,’ said a soldier, holding a gun to my head. Those who beat me were men. There were also women, but they did not interfere in any way. When I fainted, they brought cologne and tried to sober me up. When I opened my eyes, they were above me.”

(11/053) Racist Attack in Antalya…

It is learned that 2 intercity busses of Adıyaman Güleraras and Can Dersim Tuncelililer companies were attacked by anonymous person or persons with marble balls, in Gazipaşa district of Antalya on November 5, 2022. It is learned that nobody was harmed in the attacks which damaged the vehicles.

(11/054) Attack on Political Party Executive and Member in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 6, 2022 that, the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TIP) Diyarbakır provincial chair Salih Sargın was attacked by unknown person or persons in Kayapınar district on November 2, 2022.

Furkan Erdoğan, a member of TIP was attacked by unknown person or persons in Diyarbakır on November 6, 2022 and were injured at the head.

(11/055) Racist Attack on Asylum Seeker in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 7, 2022 that and Afghanistan citizen asylum seeker was attacked by 3 people who stole their phone and money in Esenler district of Istanbul.

(11/056) Attack on Cemevi in Adana…

It is learned that racist and discriminatory writings were written on the walls of the Hacıbektaş Veli Anadolu Cultural Foundation Cemevi (Alevi worship house) in Ceyhan district of Adana, and the benches in the garden of the Cemevi were damaged.

(11/057) Prevention of Journalist in Izmir…

It is learned that journalist Berkcan Zengin, who was reporting on the phobic and discriminatory “Great Family Rally” held in İzmir on November 6, 2022, was forcibly removed from the area by the police. Berkcan Zengin stated the following to the press: “A friend of mine who came with me, witnessed the police talking among themselves while sitting on the bench. The police laughed among themselves, saying, ‘Berkcan Zengin is here too’. Then they surrounded me and took me out of the area.”

(11/058) Prisoner Burned Himself in Prison…

It is learned that the prisoner named Yakup Brukanli, who set himself on fire to protest being kept in a solitary cell in Konya Ereğli High Security Prison, on October 28, 2022, was not being treated in a hospital but in the prison infirmary. Yakup Brukanlı’s lawyer stated the following: “He has a second-degree burn. The whole of the right arm and the waist were burned, the fingers of both hands were burned. He has burns on his waist with open flesh. He cannot use his right arm. On the same day, he was brought back to prison and put in a cell. He is currently kept in a with another prisoner. He is not taken to the hospital, he is treated in the infirmary. Handcuffs are put on while being taken to treatment. There is a risk of infection.”

(11/059) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 5, 2022 that, the photographs taken by the prisoner named Ali Gülmez, in İzmir Kırıklar F Type Prison, were confiscated by the prison administration on the grounds that he was “wearing shorts” and the photographs were not given to the prisoner.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 5, 2022 that, Civan Boltan, a disabled prisoner with one eye and one arm was subjected to physical violence of the correction officers in Bolu F Type Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 7, 2022 that, 2 prisoners (Tuğçenur Özbay and Güzin Tolga) were subjected to physical violence of the correction officers during ward searches in Izmir Şakran Prison and personal belongings of Tuğçenur Özbay were confiscated.

It is learned from the news coverage of November 5, 2022 that some prisoners in Ağrı Patnos L Type Prison were not referred to hospitals for a year and some were not taken to the prison infirmary on the grounds of “there was no doctor”.

(11/061)  Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on November 4, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(11/062) Police Intervention Against “I Want My Job Back” Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration which was made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on November 4, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

(11/063) Police and Gendarmerie Intervention to Protests in Istanbul and Şırnak…

The police intervened into the march held in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on November 6, 2022, regarding the allegations of usage of chemical weapons in the Claw-Lock military operation of the Turkish Armed Forces into the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government; and detained 121 people by using physical violence. Detained people are released on the same day.

The gendarmerie intervened in the march in Tilqebîn town of Silopi district of Şırnak on November 6, 2022 and detained 32 people by using physical violence.

(11/064) Detained ESP Executive in Rize…

The Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Fındıklı district representative Tugay Köse who was detained in Rize on November 2, 2022 is arrested by the court on the grounds of ‘being an illegal organisation member’ on November 4, 2022.

(11/065) Kobanê Case…

The trial of the case against 108 members and executives of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) including former co-chairs, including 20 arrestees, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 22 between October 24 and November 4, 2022.

On November 4, 2022, the court decided to release Bircan Yorulmaz and Mesut Bağcık, and to continue detention of Ali Ürküt, Alp Altınörs, Ayla Akat Ata, Ayşe Yağcı, Bülent Parmaksız, Dilek Yağlı, Gültan Kışanak, Günay Kubilay, İsmail Şengül, Nazmi Gür, Pervin Oduncu, Sebahat Tuncel, Selahattin Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ, Meryem Adıbelli, Aynur Aşan, Zeynep Ölbeci and Zeynep Karaman. The court adjourned the trial to be held between November 21 and December 2, 2022.

(11/066) CHP Executive on Trial…

The trial of the case against the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul provincial chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu on the grounds of insulting the Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun, is held at Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of First Instance No. 40 on November 4, 2022. The prosecutor declared legal opinion on the case and demanded sentence for Canan Kaftancıoğlu on the grounds of ‘publicly degrading a public official due to their duty’. The court adjourned the trial to January 11, 2023.

(11/067) Prevention of Newspaper Distribution in Diyarbakır…

It is learned from the news coverage of November 5, 2022 that, distribution of the Kurdish Xwebun newspaper published in Diyarbakır to Istanbul was prevented by the police. It is reported that the police said to the bus company that received the newspapers, “You will not take this newspaper. We will ban your vehicles if you take it” and forced them to take the newspapers out.

(11/068) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The final trial of the case against 11 people (the Community Houses deputy chair Zeynep Çelik, Hakan Arslan, Memiş Sarı, Ayhan Tural, Mehmet Latif Mikailoğulları, Yılmaz Bayram, Osman Tatlısu, Zeynep Çelik, Hakkı Demiral, Hamit Tunç, Gani Alpar, Ümit Aslaner) on the grounds of chanting the slogan “Erdoğan the thief and murderer” at the 15th General Assembly of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) held on February 12, 2016; is held at Istanbul Penal  Court of First  Instance No. 59 on November 4, 2022. The court sentenced 11 people to 11 months and 20 days on the charge of ‘insulting the President’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.

(11/069) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

It is learned that 9 people were detained in operations covering 4 cities through an Ankara based investigation on November 7, 2022.
