(03/060) Labour Killings…

On March 7, 2022, the Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) revealed that at least 106 workers including 8 women, 3 children and 10 migrant workers died while working in February 2022. It is stated that at least 10 of the workers died due to Covid-19.

(03/061) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 7, 2022 that, 5 prisoners in Urfa T Type Prison No 1 were transferred to other prisons under coercion. The names of the prisoners and the prisons they were transferred to are as follows: Rıdvan Er and Hasip Avşar (Aksaray T Type Prison No 1), Ramazan Turan and Selman Büyüktaş (Çorum Sungurlu T Type Prison), Suat Obuz (Tokat T Type Prison). It is also stated in the news reports that Rıdvan Er and Hasip Avşar were subjected to strip search at the entrance of prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 7, 2022 that, 3 prisoners who has publicized the torture and ill-treatment in Diyarbakır T Type Prison No 3 were transferred to other prisons under coercion. It is reported that Abdülaziz Tektaş was transferred to a prison in Ardahan, Serxwebun Güzel was transferred to a prison in Erzincan, and Fırat Güzel was transferred to a prison in Rize.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 8, 2022 that, Latif Mollaahmetoğlu, a prisoner in Izmir Kırıklar F Type Prison No 2, was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the soldiers who are on duty for his hospital visit, because he rejects to be examined in handcuffs. It is reported that Latif Mollaahmetoğlu was injured at several parts of his body.

It is learned from the news coverage of March 8, 2022 that, prisoners in Kocaeli Gebze Women’s Prison were charged high electricity bills. It is also stated in the news reports that the food given to prisoners was not adequate and of high quality.

(03/062) Preventions and Interventions to 8 March Events…

Istanbul Governorate’s Office made a declaration on March 7, 2022 and banned the Feminist Night March which was to be held on Istiklal Street of Beyoğlu district on March 8, 2022. The governorate stated as following: “Any unlawful events such as meetings, marches, press statements, sit-in protests, opening of stands, setting up tents, distributing leaflets, etc. within the borders of Beyoğlu district on March 8, 2022 Tuesday will not be permitted with the aim of protecting rights and freedoms and preventing the committal of crimes”.

The General Directorate of Security made a declaration on March 7, 2022 and stated as following: “Any unlawful action will not be allowed in areas other than the designated areas.”

(03/063) People on Trial in Eskişehir…

The first trial of the case against 16 people including 2 children, who have been detained by the police intervening the Pride March in Eskişehir on June 30, 2021, is held at Eskişehir Penal Court of First Instance No 8 on March 7, 2022.

Deniz Konak, one of the defendants stated the following at the trial: “They detained us by torture with no legal ground, even without police announcing to disperse, and without permitting us to talk”. Journalist Can Selman stated the following: “When I arrived there, I saw that it was over and I decided to get back home. While I was on my way home, police attacked me and they detained me although I has stated that I was a journalist.” Eren Erken stated the following: “There was nobody marching yet, I was walking to the tram station with a friend, and the police came and wanted to make a criminal record check just because I was wearing a colourful face mask and shorts. I gave them my ID card but I could not get it back. I was detained and my only fault was wearing shorts and a colourful face mask.” The court adjourned the trial to June 26, 2022.

(03/064) Association Executive on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against Rosa Women’s Association chair Adalet Kaya is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 11 on March 7, 2022. The court adjourned the trial to June 22, 2022.

(03/065) People on Trial in Şırnak…

The final trial of the case against 16 people, relatives of 34 people who died due to an air bombardment to Roboski village of Uludere district of Şırnak on December 28, 2011, is held at Şırnak Heavy Penal Court No 2 on March 7, 2022. The court acquitted 16 people.

(03/066) Investigation Against Journalist…

It is learned that Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Mazlum Engindeniz for his social media posts and that he made his official statement to Şişli District Security Directorate on March 7, 2022.

(03/067) Torture Case Against the Ministry of Interior…

It is learned from the news coverage of March 7, 2022 that, Diyarbakır Administrative Court No 3 has sentenced the Ministry of Interior to pay a compensation of 60,000 Turkish Liras to Şeyhmus Yılmaz and Menice Yılmaz, who has been subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police using dogs during a police raid to their house.

(03/068) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On March 8, 2022, 87 people are detained in operations covering 38 cities through an Izmir based investigation and 18 people are detained in operations covering 10 cities through an Ankara based investigation.

(03/069) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 132 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 34,424 as of March 7, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 95,681 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 14,388,312 as of March 7, 2022.
