(02/055) Person Wounded by Watchmen’s Fire in Maraş…

On February 5, 2022, a person (M. A.) is wounded by the fire opened by the watchmen on the grounds of ‘disobeying stop warning2 in Onikişubat district of Maraş.

(02/056) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that, 2 women who came to visit their relatives in Amasya E Type Prison were subjected to strip search.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that, hot water is not provided in Aksaray T Type Prison on the grounds of a breakdown for 20 days. It is also stated that prisoners were not given cold water too on the grounds that the municipality is not providing it.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that, Diyarbakır co-mayor Selçuk Mızraklı is transferred from Kayseri Bünyan T Type Prison No 2 to Edirne F Type Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that, 2 prisoners, journalist Özlem Seyhan is transferred to Mersin Tarsus Women’s Closed Prison and Ronahi Sırdaş to Kayseri Bünyan Women’s Prison from Diyarbakır Women’s Prison.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2022 that, 4 prisoners are transferred from Istanbul Silivri L Type Prison No 5 to Afyon T Type Prison No 1 under coercion. IT is stated in the news reports that one prisoner, Hamgin Karakaş, have a perforated eardrum due to being subjected to torture and ill-treatment during transfer. It is also reported that 4 prisoners who refused strip search at the entrance of prison were subjected to torture and ill-treatment and were put in solitary cells.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2022 that, 6 ill prisoners in Van High Security Prison are kept in solitary cells for the last 6 months. It is also stated that the right to have communication between prisoners which should be 10 hours a week is prevented from the last 21 months.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 6, 2022 that, prisoners in Kayseri Bünyan T Type Closed Prison No 1 were subjected to torture and ill treatment of the correction officers for refusing to stand up during roll-calls. It is reported that 3 prisoners (Veysel Zengin, Emrah Kına, Fetullah Hazar) were injured due to torture. It is also stated in the news reports that the correction officers saying “We are the state. This is Kayseri, there is nowhere like here. We will kill you here” were making death threats to prisoners.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that, a prisoner who tested positive for Covid-19 in Ankara Sincan Women’s Prison is kept in the same ward where prisoners with negative results are staying.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 5, 2022 that, ill prisoner Mehmet Yamaç in Malatya Akçadağ Prison is not provided a respirator as he needs.

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that, 2 more prisoners participated in the hunger strike which started on January 17, 2022 by 6 prisoners demanding an end to right violations in Tekirdağ F Type Prison.

(02/059) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on February 4, 2022 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan in order to visit him was not responded.

(02/060) Police Intervention to a Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened the press declaration about ill prisoners, held outside of the Forensic Medicine Institution in Istanbul on February 4, 2022 and detained 1 person (Feridun Osmanağaoğlu) by using physical violence. Detained person is released on the same day.

16 people who were detained by the police intervening the press declaration about ill prisoners, held outside of the Forensic Medicine Institution in Istanbul on February 3, 2022, are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 4, 2022. 1 person was released for testing positive for Covid-19 on the same day.

The police intervened the press declaration which were made within the scope of “I Want My Job Back Protest” in front of Human Rights Monument in Yüksel Street on February 4, 2022 and forced people away from the monument by using physical violence.

The police prevented the press declaration in Mamak district of Ankara on February 4, 2022, which was to protest the repression on street musicians playing Kurdish songs. It is reported that the police said “I will never ever let you sing in Kurdish. Go find a closed area if you want to do so. Go play in a wedding hall”.

The police used pepper spray and pressurized water to intervene the march in Mardin to protest raising of electricity prices on February 6, 2022. The number of detained people is unknown.

(02/065) Detained Mayor in Çanakkale…

On February 4, 2022, Cengiz Balkan, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayor of Küçükkuyu town in Ayvacık district of Çanakkale and 2 municipality workers are detained through an investigation. 3 people are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 6, 2022.

(02/066) Detained Person in Zonguldak for ‘Insulting the President’…

A person named A. Ç. who attempted to jump off the roof of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) office in Ereğli district of Zonguldak on February 5, 2022, is detained after he was convinced to get down by the police, on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ in his expressions to the reporters.

(02/067) Arrested People for Deeds Against Atatürk Statue in Samsun…

2 people (B. F. and C. F.) who were detained for their deeds against Atatürk Statue in İlkadım district of Samsun are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘violating the Law on the Protection of Atatürk’ on February 4, 2022.

(02/068) Detained People in Urfa…

6 people who were detained in Bozova district of Urfa on February 2, 2022 are released by the court on judicial control conditions on February 5, 2022.

(02/069) Detained People for Social Media Posts…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 7, 2022 that, detention warrants for issued against 8 people for their social media posts about the President’s health condition and 5 of them (3 people in Istanbul, 1 person in Ankara and 1 person in Bursa) are detained.

P. Ö. who was detained in Istanbul is released by the court on house confinement on February 6, 2022.

It is learned that former national swimmer Derya Büyükuncu is permanently deprived of his rights by the Turkish Swimming Federation over his social media post about President, and a warrant has been issued against Derya Büyükuncu who is currently living abroad.

It is learned that the banner reading “Who cares electricity cut or paying the bills… The palace society is in high cotton!” hung on CHP office in Balıkesir, is removed on the prosecutor’s direction on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ on February 5, 2022.

It is learned that Etkin News Agency’s website https://www.etha31.com is banned to access on the grounds of “protection of national security and public order” by Diyarbakır Penal Court of Peace No 5 on February 4, 2022.

(02/072) Administrative Fine for TV Channels…

It is learned from the news coverage of February 4, 2022 that the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) has issued Halk TV channel with administrative fine for the expressions of Levent Gültekin in a programme; and issued TELE 1 channel with administrative fine for the expressions of journalist Merdan Yanrdağ in a programme.

(02/073) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 248 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 111,157 as of February 4, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 221 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 98,715 as of February 5, 2022.

The Ministry of Health declared that 201 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 87,934 as of February 6, 2022.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 88,734 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 12,238,501 as of February 6, 2022.
