(08/021) Operations and Attacks…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2023 that, 3 militants died in a clash between the Turkish Armed Forces units and HPG militants in Metina area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government in July 2023; and that 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Bitlis on August 1, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 7, 2023 that, 1 militant died in a clash between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Nusaybin district of Mardin on July 25, 2023.

(08/027) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2023 that the food given to prisoners in Yozgat T Type Prisons No 1 and 2 was inadequate and unhygienic.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2023 that, the social and cultural rights of the prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison were limited.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2023 that a prisoner named Kalender Polat in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) L Type Prison No. 9 was forced to be an informant by persons claimed to be intelligent officers.

It is learned from the news coverage of August 5, 2023 that the prisoners in Adana Kürkçüler F Type Prison were forced to mouth search during hospital transfers and those who reject this was not taken to hospital.

(08/029) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on August 4, 2023 to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by families and tutelary of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, and Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in Imralı Prison, in order to visit them was not responded.

(08/030) Police Intervention to Press Declaration in Istanbul…

The police intervened in the press declaration of Saturday Mothers/People held at the Galatasaray Square of Beyoğlu district of Istanbul on August 5, 2023, and detained 26 people including the Human Rights Association (HRA) chair Eren Keskin, the Confederation of Public Employees’ Unions (KESK) co-chair Şükran Kablan Yeşil, the Health and Social Services Employees’ Union (SES) co-chair Gönül Adıbelli and the HRA Istanbul branch chair Gülseren Yoleri by using physical violence. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording the intervention. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day. Detained people were: Hanife Yıldız, Besna Tosun, Maside Ocak, Gülsüm Elvan, Eren Keskin, Mikail Kırbayır, Ali Tosun, Hasan Karakoç, Ali Ocak, Gülseren Yoleri, Oya Ersoy, Leman Yurtsever, İsmail Yücel, Cüneyt Yılmaz, Ömer Kavran, Davut Arslan, Şükran Kablan Yeşil, Aziz Özkan, Bülent Türkmen, Gönül Adıbelli, Ahmet Keleş, Varol Öztorun, Canan Kebenç Özkan, Vaiz Adıgüzel, Yılmaz Haksever and M. Ensari Korkmaz.

(08/031) Police Intervention to Support Declaration in for Saturday Mothers…

The police intervened in the press declaration held in Adana on August 5, 2023 to support Saturday Mothers/People, on the grounds of the governorate’s ban and detained 18 people including the HRA Adana branch chair Yakup Ataş, the Progressive Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) general secretary Ümit Büyükdağ, the HRA central executive board member İlhan Öngör and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Adana provincial co-chair Mehmet Karakış. It is learned that Mezopotamya News Agency reporter Hamdullah Yağız Kesen was injured during the intervention. Detained people were released after statement procedures on the same day. Detained people were: Yakup Ataş, Havin Ölmez, Zehra Özkan, Teberdar Elik, Belgin Işık, Aziz Sarı, İlhan Öngör, Serhat Ökmen, Mehmet Karakış, Taylan Çelik, Saniye Seçgin, Nihat Doğaner, Çetin Eye, Mengücek Gazi Çıtırık, Hasan Karabulut, Müslüm Elik, Nihat Doğaner, Ümit Büyükdağ.

The police prevented the press declaration to be held for the same cause in Van on August 5, 2023 on the grounds of the governorate’s ban. It is learned that the police prevented journalists from recording.

(08/032) Police Intervention to Protest in Istanbul…

It is learned that a person named Nurettin Koç who was holding a silent protest in a park in Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, having three banners reading “Price hike is a price hike, not an update”, “Internal forces are the cause, inflation is the effect”, “When will it come to public savings?” was detained by the police on August 6, 2023 on the grounds of ‘violation of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’.

(08/033) Investigation Against Journalist…

It is learned that Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation against Mezopotamya News Agency editor-in-chief Diren Yurtsever upon the complaint of Dicle Electricity Distribution Company over the news reports, and that Diren Yurtsever made official statement at Tunceli Courthouse on August 4, 2023.

(08/034) Journalist on Trial in Ankara…

The indictment of Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office against journalist Hasan Sivri over his social media post reading “They can of course note it down but these are what we noted based on evident” regarding the Maraş earthquake, was accepted by Ankara Penal Court of First Instance on August 4, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Hasan Sivri on the grounds of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’. The first trial will be held on December 12, 2023.

Adana Governorate’s Office made a declaration on August 4, 2023 and banned marches, press declarations, hunger strikes, sit-in protest, opening stands and tents, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on for 1 day as of August 5, 2023.

Van Governorate’s Office made a declaration on August 4, 2023 and banned press declarations, conducting surveys, opening stands and tents, collecting petitions, distributing leaflets, and any kind of protests for 2 days as of August 5, 2023.

(08/036) Banned Events in Samsun…

It is learned that the “Women’s Matinee” shows of Murat Övüç in Bafra and Atakum districts of Samsun were banned by Samsun Governorate’s Office on the grounds of “being contrary to national and moral values” on August 7, 2023.

(08/037) Ban of Access to Web Contents…

It is learned that 57 news reports and contents about a person named Burak Başlılar were banned to access and ruled to be deleted on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No. 7 on August 5, 2023.

(08/038) Special Security Zone in Mardin…

Mardin Governorate’s Office made a declaration on August 4, 2023 and announced the rural areas in Üçköy, Güzelsu, Dibek, Kaleli, Yakınca, Taşköy, Yol, Şekrin, Derik neighbourhoods in Nusaybin district as special security zones for 15 days as of August 4, 2023. The decision was lifted by a further notice on August 5, 2023.
