(09/036) Operations and Attacks…
The Ministry of Interior announced on 3 September 2024 that 1 soldier (Yavuz Güney) from Diyarbakır Silvan Gendarmerie Commando Regiment Command died due to a gun accident.
It is learned from the news coverage of 4 September 2024 that, 4 militants died in clashes between security forces and HPG militants in the rural areas of Şırnak on 17 and 18 August 2024.

Worker Health and Worker Safety Council (ISIG) announced on 4 September 2024 that at least 179 workers, including 9 women, 7 children and 9 migrants/refugees, lost their lives while working in August 2024.
(09/038) Armed Attack on a Protest in Artvin…
It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, Muhammet Ustabaş, one of the owners of Candeniz Kerestecilik, opened fire with a gun at people who were protesting the declaration of an area in the Cankurtaran area of the Hopa district of Artvin as a tourism zone and the subcontractor company Candeniz Kerestecilik coming to the area to cut down trees. Three people, Reşit Kibar, Ersan Koyuncu and Gökhan Koyuncu were wounded in the armed attack and were taken to hospital. Reşit Kibar lost his life in the hospital. It is reported that the attacker Muhammet Ustabaş and Fikret Merttürk, the owner of another company in the area, were detained and Muhammet Ustabaş was arrested by the criminal peace judgeship, while Fikret Merttürk was released on judicial control conditions.
Lawyer Haktan Özkan stated that the protesters called the gendarmerie after the attacker first opened fire in the air, but the gendarmerie who came to the area did not get out of their vehicle during the attack and did not support Reşit Kibar, one of the 3 wounded people, to be taken to hospital.

It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, Plamen Dinev, a Bulgarian citizen who was handcuffed by private security guards on the grounds of being drunk and harassing a couple staying at a hotel in the Kuşadası district of Aydın, died under suspicious circumstances. It is claimed that Plamen Dinev had a heart attack and 14 people including 2 private security guards were detained.

It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Izmir Kemalpaşa district chair Ahmet Yılmaz’s car parked in front of his house was subjected to an armed attack by 2 people (E. Ç. and A. Y.) and 2 people were detained by the police. It is also reported in the news that the perpetrators of the armed attack were former workers of Kemalpaşa Municipality and were dismissed from their jobs a month ago.

It is learned from the news coverage of 4 September 2024 that in the report of Finnish Immigration Office, which was prepared as a result of an investigation visit to Ankara and Istanbul between 2 – 6 October 2023 and published on 14 August 2024, it is claimed that 12 women who were detained after the coup attempt on 15 July 2016 became pregnant due to the qualified sexual assault they were subjected to.

It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Fırat Can Arslan was threatened by various social media accounts after he shared his news report titled ‘Qers Municipality has turned into a family business: Ülkü Ocakları are running the city!’ and that the journalist filed a criminal complaint to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office about the threats.
(09/044) Racist and Discriminatory Statements Targeting a Football Referee…
It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, in the game between Amedspor and Kocaelispor at Urfa 11 Nisan Stadium on 2 September 2024, Ahmet Oğuz, a football player from Kocaelispor, made a statement after the match and said ‘How can a referee from the east (Oğuzhan Aksu) be appointed in such an important match? After all, he is from the east! I really don’t understand this. We couldn’t get into dialogues, there is a style problem, we are really sorry’.
Zafer Party Chair Ümit Özdağ posted on his social media account saying: ‘If an investigation is not launched into the disgrace that happened in the Kocaelispor – Amedspor match, it will be difficult for these leagues to end peacefully. TFF needs to take action immediately. The injustice done to Kocaelispor must be corrected”.

It is learned from the news coverage of 2 September 2024 that, prisoners in Kocaeli Kandıra F2 Prison were forced to strip search and some prisoners were subjected to physical violence by the correction officers.
It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, Kemal Yiğit, a prisoner in Giresun F Type Prison, reported in a phone call to his family that sick prisoners were not referred to hospitals, food was not given, some prisoners were subjected to physical violence and ill-treatment by correction officers, petitions written on the subject were thrown away by correction officers and disciplinary proceedings were initiated by the prison administration against prisoners protesting rights violations in prison.
It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, 2 prisoners (Hüseyin Sürgeç and Ersan Nazlıer) in Istanbul Maltepe L Type Prison were transferred to Tekirdağ F Type Prison No 2 against their will and their families were not informed.
It is learned from the news coverage of September 4, 2024 that, 15 prisoners in Batman T Type Prison were subjected to disciplinary proceedings by the prison administration for dancing halay to Kurdish songs, and that 15 prisoners were sentenced to solitary confinement for 15 days each on September 2, 2024, on the grounds of ‘making education and propaganda activities of illegal organizations’.

It is learned from the news coverage of 4 September 2024 that, the release of İdris Başaran, an ill prisoner in Antalya Döşemealtı S Type Prison, who completed his life sentence of 30 years on 19 July 2024, was postponed for 6 months by the Prison Administration and Observation Board (İGK) on the grounds of ‘not being in good behavior’.

It is learned that the appeal made on September 3, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.
(09/048) Protest Prevented by the Police in Edirne…
It is learned from the news coverage of 3 September 2024 that, people who formed a convoy with tractors for ‘Big Farmers’ March’ called by Republican People’s Party (CHP) Keşan District Presidency in Edirne and wanted to go to Cumhuriyet Quarter were prevented by the police on the grounds that Edirne Governorate and Keşan District Governorate did not give permission. It is reported in the news that the peaceful protest was still organized.
(09/049) Person on Trial for Social Media Posts in Artvin…
The final hearing of the lawsuit filed against conscientious objector Şendoğan Yazıcı on Artvin Borçka Penal Court of First Instance on the grounds of criticising the ‘absentee report’ sent to him in a social media post on 25 November 2022, was held on 20 August 2024. The court sentenced Şendoğan Yazıcı to 5 months and 18 days imprisonment and 36.500 Turkish Liras administrative fine on the charge of ‘provocation to disobey the law’.
