(05/026) Male Violence Monitoring Report…
According to the “Male Violence Monitoring Report” of Bianet published on May 4, 2023, at least 24 women and 3 children got killed by men in April 2023. It is also reported that at least 56 women were subjected to violence, 5 women were harassed, 4 children were abused by men in April 2023.
(05/027) May 14, 2023 General Elections…
7 of 23 people including YSP deputy candidates, the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), the Socialist Youth Associations’ Federation (SGDF) members and executives and Etkin News Agency reporters and editors who were detained in house raids in 8 cities on April 30, 2023, are arrested by the court on May 3, 2023. 7 people are released on house confinement and 9 people are released on judicial control conditions. Arrested people are: ESP co-chair Şahin Tümüklü, YSP Eskişehir deputy candidate Müslüm Koyun, ETHA editor Nadiye Namoğlu Gürbüz, Kalender Polat, Sinem Çelebi, Adnan Özcan and Selvinaz Göçmen. The names of those released on house confinement are: YSP Izmir deputy candidate Meryem Yıldırım, Ebrar Uz, Hasan Polat, Uğur Ok, Tuncay Yıldırım Özen, Merve Havalı, Sude Çağlar. The names of those released on judicial control conditions are: YSP Istanbul deputy candidate Burcu Ayyıldız, Sadrettin Polat, Bedran Çoğaltay, Serdal Işık, Leyla Can, F. Deniz Kanpolat, Kerem Bükre, Deniz Konak, Alperen Aktaş.
It is learned that 1 of 7 people (Süleyman Hızmalı) who were detained by the police following the attack on the election campaign stand of YSP in Edirne on May 2, 2023 is arrested by the court on May 3, 2023. It is reported that Süleyman Hızmalı was injured in the attack.
It is learned that the election campaign stand of the Free Cause Party (HÜDAPAR) in Trabzon was cancelled after the reactions around on May 3, 2023. It is reported that the stand which was opened at the same spot on May 4, 2023 was attacked by a group and demolished.
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member Mesut Bağcık and Ronay Erdinç who were detained in Diyarbakır are released on judicial control conditions on May 3, 2023.
It is learned that the campaign stand of YSP in Eyüp district of Istanbul was set on fire by anonymous person or persons on May 4, 2023.
The police intervened in the campaign group for Ankara 1st region parliamentary candidate and the Socialist Labourer Party (SEP) chair Güneş Gümüş, in Çankaya district of Ankara on May 4, 2023 and detained 9 people by using physical violence. It is learned that 1 person was injured at the head.
It is learned that the campaign group for presidential candidate and the Republican People’s Party (CHP) chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, was attacked by a group in Çankaya district of Ankara on May 4, 2023, and 1 person was injured.

The police intervened in the press declaration held in front of the Emlak Residence Real Estate Investment Trust in Istanbul on May 4, 2023 and detained 15 people including YSP deputy candidate Kezban Konukçu and the Revolutionary Construction and Road Workers’ Union (Dev-Yapı-İş) members by using physical violence.

It is learned that 11 people were detained in operations covering 7 cities through an Urfa based investigation on May 3, 2023.

2 people (Emircan Bozkurt and Ömer Köker) who were detained on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organisation on social media in Tekirdağ, are arrested by the court on May 4, 2023.
(05/031) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…
The retrial of the case against journalist Zafer Arapkirli, on the grounds of insulting Nureddin Yıldız of the Social Texture Foundation, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No. 32 on May 3, 2023, as the Regional Court has overturned the local court’s acquittal. The court adjourned the trial to November 29, 2023.

It is learned that the trial of the case against 32 people on the charges of ‘resisting to prevent public duty’ and ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ is held at Izmir Penal Court of First Instance No. 19 on April 24, 2023. The court adjourned the trial to September 21, 2023. 32 people were detained by the police intervening in the press declaration held in Konak district of Izmir on July 20, 2022, to commemorate those died in the bombing attack in Suruç district of Urfa on July 20, 2015.

It is learned from the news coverage of May 3, 2023 that, Diyarbakır Lice Penal Court of First Instance has ruled lack of jurisdiction about the indictment of Lice Public Prosecutor’s Office against 5 police officers on the charge of ‘deprivation of liberty’ regarding torture and ill-treatment of a 14-year-old child (Y. D.) in Lice district of Diyarbakır on March 21, 2023; and that send the case to Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court on the grounds that the deeds of the police officers constitutes the charges of ‘torture’ and ‘looting’.

It is learned that the news report about Medipol Hospital owned by the Health Minister, published on https://halktv.com.tr website is banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights by Istanbul Anadolu Penal Court of Peace No. 8 on May 2, 2023.
(05/035) Earthquakes in Antep and Maraş…
The Minister of Family and Social Services made a statement on May 2, 2023 and declared that a total of 1,914 unaccompanied children were registered in the system, 1,814 of them were identified and given to their families, 25 children were in the hospital, 65 children were in the institutions of the ministry, and 4 children could not be identified.
