(06/036) Soldiers Died in Hatay…

It is learned that 2 soldiers died in a military car crash in Kırıkhan district of Hatay on June 3, 2021.

(06/037) Person Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Istanbul…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2021 that, a woman named Gökçe Yaşar was subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police on street in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on December 20, 2020. It could be seen from the footage covered in media that, the police officer who forces Gökçe Yaşar to face down on the ground, keeps hitting her face and head.

It is learned that the police officer A. C. Y. was relocated.

Gökçe Yaşar’s official statement which was covered by press goes as following: “I was going to my house in the building complex when a police car stopped in front of me and one officer said ‘where the hell are you going’. I said ‘please mind your language’ and he said ‘shut up, none of your business’ and askes to see my identity card. I told them I did not have it with me but I could go get it from home in their company, but he said ‘shut up’ and started to beat me. Then he faced me down on the ground, handcuffed me behind my back and said ‘you slut, I can deal with you’ and cursed me. The he put me in the police car, kept kicking and punching me, and said ‘you have been grown as a spoon-fed baby, f… you, I come to this complex every day, I know your house and I will do every day’ to threaten me. The doctor at Esenyurt Public Hospital where we went to get a medical report to evidence the violence, said ‘you haven’t beaten so badly this time’ and the officer responded that he would not let me go and laughed”.

(06/038) Torture and Ill-Treatment in Prison…

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2021 that, prisoners in Samsun Bafra T Type Prison were not given face masks, cleaning supplies and disinfectants to be protected from Covid-19; their cultural, social and sports rights are being prevented; and their letters in Kurdish were not sent.

(06/039) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on June 3, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(06/040) Police Prevention to a Protest in Ankara…

The police prevented the press declaration to protest violence against health workers, organized by of Ankara Medical Chamber in Ankara Research and Training Hospital on June 3, 2021.

(06/041) Detained People in Batman for Social Media Posts…

On June 3, 2021, 3 people are detained in Batman on the grounds of making propaganda for an illegal organization on social media. The names of detained people are unknown.

(06/042) Detained HDP Executive in Istanbul…

The police detained Cahit Alkan, district executive of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), on the grounds of a warrant against him, in Kıraç neighbourhood office of HDP in Esenyurt district of Istanbul on June 3, 2021.

(06/043) Detained Association Members and Executives in Van…

On May 19, 2021 and following days, 18 people have been detained through a Van based investigation against members and executives of MEBYA-DER (Association of People Lost Their Relatives in the Cradle of Civilizations). 5 people (Cevdet Bilekçi, Halil Karakoç, Kamuran Çiftçi, Mahmut Dindar, Savaş Encü) who were released on judicial control conditions by the court on May 28, 2021, are detained once again upon the prosecutor’s objection on June 3, 2021; and they are arrested by the court on the same day.

The number of people arrested through this investigation raised to 11, while 7 people are released provided that 6 of them will be on judicial control conditions.

(06/044) CHP Executive on Trial…

The trial of the case against Zeynep Altıok, former deputy chair of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), on the grounds of ‘insulting the President’ is held at Izmir Urla Penal Court of First Instance No 1 on June 3, 2021. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to September 28, 2021.

(06/045) Journalist on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The trial of the case against journalist Abdurrahman Gök who has captured the moment Kemal Kürküt was killed by police officers at the Newroz celebration in Diyarbakır in 2017, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 5 on June 3, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for Abdurrahman Gök on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’, for his social media posts and journalism.

After defence hearings the court decided to send the case to the prosecutor for legal opinion and adjourned the trial to September 30, 2021.

(06/046) People on Trial for Participating in a Protest in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 12 people, who have been detained for carrying a “rainbow flag” in a protest against the new rector appointed to Boğaziçi University, is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 24 on June 4, 2021.

The indictment demands sentence for 12 people on the charge of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No 2911”.

After defence hearings the court decided to lift partly the judicial control conditions for 12 people and adjourned the trial to June 28, 2021.

(06/047) Association Member on Trial in Diyarbakır…

The first trial of the case against lawyer Elif Tirenç İpek Ulaş, an executive board member of Rosa Women’s Association, is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No 8 on June 4, 2021. After defence hearings the court adjourned the trial to October 4, 2021.

(06/048) Police Officer on Trial in Izmir…

The first trial of the case against police officer Nazan Üretürk, in relation to the torture and ill-treatment that Pınar Usta was subjected to during the police intervention against a protest held in Izmir on August 5, 2020, about the Istanbul Convention; is held at Izmir Bayraklı Penal Court of First Instance No 14 on June 3, 2021. Pınar Usta and police officer Nazan Üretürk joined the trial and made their defence declarations. The court adjourned the trial to September 23, 2021.

It is learned from the news coverage of June 3, 2021 that the news reports about a business person who is released from prison, published on https://www.dw.com/, https://odatv4.com  websites are banned to access on the grounds of violation of personal rights, by Ankara Penal Court of Peace No 7 on May 31, 2021.

(06/050) Trials in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

The final trial of the case against lawyer Adnan Şeker is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No 22 on June 3, 2021. The court sentenced the defendant to 9 years and 9 months on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’.

The final trial of the case against 37 people, in relation to the incidents at the hotel where President Erdoğan was staying in Marmaris district of Muğla, during the coup attempt on July 15, is held at Muğla Heavy Penal Court No 2 on June 3, 2021. The court sentenced 30 defendants to 18 times of 18 years; 5 defendants to 18 times of 15 years on the charge of ‘qualified robbery’; and 1 defendant to 15 times of 18 years and separated the case of 1 fugitive defendant.

(06/051) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 114 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and 563 new Covid-19 ill patients were diagnosed on June 3, 2021. It is also declared that the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 6,602.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 47,882 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,270,299 as of June 3, 2021.
