(07/043) Male Violence Monitoring Report…

According to the ‘Male Violence Monitoring Report’ published by Bianet on July 3, 2024, at least 34 women and 3 children were killed by men across Turkey in June 2024. It is also reported that men inflicted violence on at least 60 women, harassed 7 women, abused 7 children and forced 21 women to sex work.

(07/044) Racist Attacks Against Syrian Refugees/Asylum Seekers in Antalya…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2024, that at least 40 refugees/asylum seekers including children are kept in a police station in the Serik district of Antalya due to racist attacks against Syrian refugees/asylum seekers across Turkey since June 30, 2024; and that those without temporary protection ID cards will be deported.

(07/045) Syrian Refugee/Asylum Seeker Child Who Lost His Life Due to a Racist Attack in Antalya…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 4, 2024, that 3 people (R. Ö., Y. Y., and İ. Ö.) who were detained for the death of Syrian refugee/asylum seeker Ahmet Handan El Naif (17, m) in the Serik district of Antalya on July 3, 2024, were arrested by the criminal peace judgeship.

It is also reported in the news that Serik Criminal Peace Judgeship imposed a broadcast ban on the news about the death of Ahmet Handan El Naif.

(07/046) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan not Responded to…

It is learned that the appeal made on May 9, 2024, to the chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by lawyers in order to visit their clients PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş in İmralı Prison was not responded.

(07/047) Police Intervention Against a March in Izmir…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 4, 2024, that the police used tear gas to intervene against Menemen Municipality workers who were dismissed from their jobs after the March 31 local elections and were marching to the Menemen Municipality building to attend the July meeting of Menemen Municipality Assembly, and prevented them from entering the building. It is not known whether anyone was detained during the intervention.

(07/048) Journalists, Lawyers and ESP Members on Trial in Istanbul…

The trial of the case against 23 people including Law Office of the Oppressed lawyers Sezin Uçar, Özlem Gümüştaş, Gülhan Kaya and Ali Haydar Doğan, Etkin News Agency (ETHA) news director İsminaz Temel, reporter Havva Cuştan and Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) members and executives, continued on July 3, 2024, at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No 27. The indictment demands a sentence for 23 people on the charges of ‘being a member of an illegal organization’ and ‘making propaganda for an illegal organization’. The court decided to lift judicial control measures against ESP Co-Chair Özlem Gümüştaş and to continue judicial control measures against Law Office of the Oppressed lawyer Sezin Uçar and adjourned the trial to November 13, 2024.

(07/049) People on Trial in Istanbul…

The first trial of the case against 12 people who were detained in the house raids for marching to Taksim during the May 1 celebrations in Istanbul, started on July 3, 2024, at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 25. The indictment demands a sentence for 12 people on the charges of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’, ‘resisting to prevent duty’, ‘intentional injury’ and ‘damaging property’. The court ruled for the release of 8 arrestees, lifted all judicial control measures against 12 people, and adjourned the trial to January 7, 2025.

(07/050) People on Trial in Ankara…

On July 3, 2024, the final hearing of the case against 42 people who were detained with torture and ill-treatment during the police intervention against the 2nd Ankara Pride March in July 2022, was held at Ankara Penal Court of First Instance No 52. The court acquitted 42 people on the charges of ‘violating Law No. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and ‘resisting to prevent duty’.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2024, that the Governorate of Van did not give permission for the concert of the band Rastak, organized by Van Metropolitan Municipality, on the grounds of the ‘Culture Road Festival’ organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

(07/052) Radio Channel whose Broadcasting License Was Revoked by RTÜK…

It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2024, that Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed an administrative fine and a 5-day broadcast suspension on Açık Radyo Radyo for the statements of a guest on the radio show ‘Açık Gazete’ about the Armenian Genocide, and that RTÜK canceled the broadcasting license of the channel on the grounds that the channel continued broadcasting despite the administrative fine and 5-day broadcast suspension.

(07/053) People Detained in Izmir…

On July 4, 2024, 9 people were detained in house raids in Izmir due to ‘being a member of an illegal organization’.
