It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2023 that, 3 militants died in a clash between Turkish Armed Forces and HPG militants in Zap area of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government on June 23, 2023.
(07/027) Torture and Ill-Treatment Under Custody in Istanbul…
It is learned that 1 person who was detained by the police intervening in the commemoration held in Sancaktepe district of Istanbul on July 2, 2023 for those who lost their lives in the Madımak Massacre where 33 people were killed in Sivas on July 2, 1993; was subjected to torture and ill-treatment including strip search.

Journalist Kadir Bayram was detained in Diyarbakır on July 4, 2023. The reason for detention could not be learned.

It is learned that 3 people (Sakin Altın, Muzaffer Altın, Bedrettin Altın) were detained in house raids in Yolbilen village following the curfew in 10 villages of Hizan district of Bitlis on July 2, 2023 and that detained people were taken to the District Gendarmerie Command.

The final trial of the case against the Human Rights Association central executive board member and former Siirt branch chair Vetha Aydın Yüksel, for her human rights defending activities is held at Siirt Heavy Peal Court No. 1 on July 4, 2023. The court sentenced Vetha Aydın Yüksel to 6 years and 3 months on the charge of “being a member of an illegal organisation”, and decided to ban her from leaving the country.

The trial of the case against the Greens and Left Future Party (YSP) Erzurum MP Meral Danış Beştaş is held at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No. 8 on July 4, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Meral Danış Beştaş on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court decided to consider the lawyers’ demand for ending the proceedings as Meral Danış Beştaş was elected as deputy once again and adjourned the trial to October 5, 2023.

The final trial of the case against poet Ahmet Telli, for a poem he read and his speech at a press declaration on May 11, 2017, is held at Ankara Heavy Penal Court No. 26 on July 4, 2023. The court sentenced Ahmet Telli to 10 months on the charge of ‘making propaganda for an illegal organisation’ and postponed the sentence.

It is learned from the news coverage of July 3, 2023 that, 396 news reports and social media posts were banned to access by courts in two months upon the complaint of journalist Hilal Kaplan.

It is learned that Ege University’s former rector Mustafa Cüneyt Hoşcoşkun was detained in Izmir on July 4, 2023.
