According to Bianet’s “Male Violence Register,” at least 16 women and 4 children were killed by men across Turkey in January 2026. The statement also stated that men inflicted violence on at least 49 women, harassed 10 women, abused 12 children and forced 157 women to sex work.
(02/025) Syrian Refugees/Migrants Subjected to Torture and Ill-Treatment in Izmir…
It is learned from the news coverage of February 3, 2026 that, 2 Syrian refugees/immigrants (Muhammed Salih Halil and Vays Halil) were subjected to torture and ill-treatment of the police during a general identity check in Izmir on December 7, 2025. It is stated in the news reports that these 2 people were also subjected to verbal violence at their homes.
Human Rights Association Izmir Branch made a press declaration on the issue and stated the following “On December 7, 2025, Muhammad Salih Halil and Vays Halil, Syrian nationals under temporary protection status, were stopped by police officers in a public area, taken into a white civilian car on the grounds that they were going to be subjected to a general identity check and were subjected to physical violence. It is reported that during the searches in their houses, insults, swear words and insulting discourse against Syrian youth continued and a discriminatory and exclusionary language based on nationality was used, especially with threats and expressions such as ‘go back to your country’ and ‘we will deport you’.”

3 members of Left Party, who were investigated for a banner with the slogan “Secular, Revolutionary, Democratic Republic against Sharia, Fascism and Darkness”, are released by the criminal court of peace on house confinement as a judicial control measure.

The final hearing of the lawsuit filed by Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against 7 people including Acar Ünlü, Mayor of Muğla’s Marmaris district, Mehmet Barut, CHP Muğla Deputy Provincial Chair Mehmet Barut and CHP Muğla Youth Branch Chair Nazım Şardoğan, on the grounds of the protest in Muğla on March 19, 2025 regarding the detention of IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, was held on February 3, 2026 at Muğla Criminal Court of First Instance No 2. The court sentenced Acar Ünlü to 46.600 TL judicial fine on the charge of ‘publicly insulting a public officer’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict. The court acquitted Ünlü on the charge of ‘resisting against a public officer’.
The court sentenced Nazım Şardoğan to 15.000 Turkish Liras on the charge of ‘resisting to prevent the execution of his duty’ and to 1 year 4 months and 7 days of imprisonment on the charge of ‘intentional injury to a public officer’ and deferred the announcement of the verdict.
The court acquitted 5 other people.

The trial of the case against journalist Nisanur Yıldırım, upon the complaint of the Minister of Culture and Tourism due to a news report she made, started on February 4, 2026 at Istanbul Bakırköy Criminal Court of First Instance No 2. The indictment demands sentence for the journalist on the charge of ‘insulting a public official’. The court adjourned the trial to February 18, 2026.

On February 4, 2026, the trial of the case against 9 people who protested the trade relations between Turkey and Israel during the President’s speech at ‘TRT World Forum’ held at Istanbul Congress Center on November 29-30, 2024, is held at Istanbul Penal Court of First Instance No 8. The indictment demands sentence for 9 people on the charge of ‘violating Law No 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations’. The court adjourned the trial to June 16, 2026.

On February 3, 2026, it is learned from news coverage of February 3, 2026 that Amedspor player Çekdar Orhan, who showed his joy by braiding his hair after scoring a goal during the match between Amedspor and Adana Demirspor, was referred to Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) for ‘ideological propaganda’.

Justice and Development Party Kocaeli MP and Chairperson of the Child Rights Sub-Commission of the Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Radiye Sezer Katırcıoğlu made the following discriminatory and phobic statements in her speech at the commission’s meeting held on February 3, 2026: “LGBTI+ organizations targeting children and the ideological propaganda activities carried out by these organizations have become not only an issue of social debate but also a direct threat to child safety and children’s rights.”
