(08/027) Racist Attack in Konya…

14 people were detained in relation to the racist attack that killed 7 members of Dedeoğulları family in Hasanköy neighbourhood of Meram district of Konya on July 30, 2021. 10 of them (A. Ç., V. K., Y. Ç., Z. A., A. K., A. K., İ. K., İ. A., İ. A. and R. Ç.) are arrested by the court on the charge of ‘intentional killing’, and 4 people are released on judicial control conditions.

(08/028) Meeting Request with Abdullah Öcalan Not Responded…

It is learned that the appeal made on August 3, 2021 to chief public prosecutor’s office in Bursa by PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers in order to visit their client was not responded.

(08/029) Detained Journalist in Istanbul…

Uğur Şahin, news director of Birgün newspaper, is detained by the police while he was recording an incident of male violence against a woman in Şişli district of Istanbul on August 3, 2021. It is learned that Uğur Şahin is detained although he has shown his press accreditation card; and that the reason of detention is the circular of the General Directorate of Security which bans recording without permission during a police intervention. Uğur Şahin is released on the same day.

(08/030) Police Intervention to Women’s Protest in Ankara…

The police intervened the press declaration in front of Çankaya district municipality building in Ankara on August 3, 2021; to protest femicide as two women, Azra Gülendam Haytaoğlu in Antalya and Emine Gökkız in Maraş were killed in the last few days. It is learned that the police prevented journalists and seized the identity card of a Jinnews reporter, and threatened to detain her. 15 people are detained by the police using physical violence and they are released after statement procedures on the same day.

Detained people were: Nebiye Merttürk, Esma Nur Çağlak, Başak Yılmaz, Buse Üçer, Sena Bademli, İlay Kadiroğlu, Ekin Deniz Savrum, Seda Özkan, Süheyla Oğuz, Ayşenur Gidergi, Dilara Sağlam, Aleyna Melek Sert, Mizgin Tekdal, Hazal Sürkit, Zekiye Elif Yıldız.

(08/031) Police Intervention to Workers’ Protest in Istanbul…

The police intervened Dilbent Türker in Kartal district of Ankara on August 3, 2021, who is marching from Istanbul to Ankara for she had been dismissed from their jobs because of union membership. The police detained Dilbent Türker, All Automotive and Metal Workers’ Union (TOMİS) representative Onur Eyidoğan, and Young Workers’ Association members Batuhan Çotur, Nazlı Şen and Murat Yıldırım. 2 people (Batuhan Çotur and Murat Yıldırım) are released after statement procedures at the prosecutor’s office, 3 people are released by the court with a ban on leaving the country.

On August 4, 2021, the members of Health and Social Service Employees’ Union (SES) distributing leaflets in Ankara City Hospital, are prevented by the private security officers.

(08/034) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…

On August 3, 2021, 26 people are detained in operations covering 13 cities through an Ankara based investigation; and 8 people are detained in operations covering 4 cities through an Istanbul based investigation.

(08/035) Covid-19 Pandemic…

The Ministry of Health declared that 126 people died due to Covid-19 pandemic and the daily number of Covid-19 cases is 24,832 as of August 3, 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Turkey increased to 51,643 and total number of confirmed ill patients is 5,795,665 as of August 3, 2021.
