It is learned that a car with Diyarbakır licence plate was attacked by a racist group using stones and sticks in İnegöl district of Bursa on April 3, 2023. It could not be learned weather anybody was injured or not.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2023 that, a prisoner named Vedat Yaşar in Istanbul Marmara (Silivri) L Type Prison No. 5 was transferred to another prison in Afyon under coercion.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 4, 2023 that, a prisoner named Fikret Erden who was trapped under the wall collapsing in Maraş Türkoğlu L Type Prison due to earthquake, which resulted in a fracture in the metal pin in his arm, was not treated and transferred to Kırıkkale F Type Prison.

The police intervened in the press declaration held in front of Çağlayan Courthouse in Istanbul before the first trial of the case against journalist Sezgin Kartal which was to be held on April 4, 2023; and detained at least 25 people. It is also learned that the police prevented journalists from recording.

On April 4, 2023, 20 people including 7 people in house raids in Van. The reason for detention is unknown.

On April 4, 2023, 3 people (Şükriye Göktürk, Botan Sarıboğa, Serhat Senor) were detained in house raids in Kızıltepe and Nusaybin districts of Mardin. The reason for detention is unknown.
(04/025) Journalist on Trial in Istanbul…
The first trial of the case against Karşı Mahalle news portal reporter Sezgin Kartal is held at Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 22 on April 4, 2023. The indictment demands sentence for Sezgin Kartal on the charge of ‘being an illegal organisation member’. The court decided to continue detention of Sezgin Kartal and adjourned the trial to June 22, 2023. Sezgin Kartal was detained on January 10, 2023 and was arrested on January 13, 2023.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 3, 2023 that, the final trial of the case against 39 people on the grounds of participating in the press declaration held in Samsun on June 1, 2013, regarding Gezi Park protests, was held at Samsun Penal Court of First Instance No. 4 on March 23, 2023. The court sentenced 39 people to jail sentences from 10 months to 3 years 1 month and 15 days on the charges of ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations’ and ‘resisting to public officer’.

It is learned from the news coverage of April 4, 2023 that Rize Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared an indictment against the Labour Party (EMEP) Rize provincial chair Hasan Zorlucan and Fındıklı district executive Kamil Çavuşoğlu, for the banners about the earthquakes. The indictment demands sentence for 2 people on the charge of ‘publicly disseminating misleading information’.

The gendarmerie intervened in the people gathering for the opening of the Green Left Party election campaign office in Halfeti district of Urfa on April 3, 2023, and detained 12 people by using physical violence.
(04/029) Ban of Events in Şırnak and Kağıthane…
Şırnak Governorate’s Office made a statement on April 3, 2023 and announced that all meetings, open-door assemblies, demonstrations, marches, sit-in protests, human chains, op-ed stands, public sessions, any kind of audio-visual activities with mobile audio-visual vehicles, hunger strikes, opening stands, collecting petitions, flying sky lanterns or balloons, commemorations, concerts, festivals, theatre plays, screening shows, firing torches, distributing leaflets, hanging banners and so on are banned for 2 days as of April 4, 2023.
Kağıthane District Governorate’s Office in Istanbul made a statement on April 4, 2023 and banned all sit-in protests, press declarations, assemblies, opening stands and etc. within the district for 1 day as of April 4, 2023, on the grounds of the press declaration to be held about the trial of the case against journalist Sezgin Kartal.

It is learned from the news coverage that, the number of contractors who were arrested for their responsibility in the buildings collapsed in Antep and Maraş earthquakes is 326 as of April 4, 2023.
(04/031) Detentions and Arrests in Alleged Link to Coup Attempt…
On April 4, 2023, 9 people were detained in operations covering 2 cities through an Istanbul based investigation; 16 people were detained in operations covering 3 cities through another Istanbul based investigation; 7 people were detained in operations covering 7 cities through another Istanbul based investigation; and 11 people were detained in operations covering 8 cities through an Ankara based investigation.
